Why should they? They're making more money than teams that are in big conferences. They have their own tv network. Joining a conference would cause them to lose a hell of a lot of money.

Well it is, and if more schools can thrive as an indie like Notre Dame can, they would.

because they get to create their schedule and pick and choose who they want and when they'd rather play them. And because of their name, they are an at-large bid even if they don't always deserve it.

when was the last time they got into a bowl they didn't deserved to be in?
want to fix that problem? Don't have 159484 bowl games where basically every team get's in.

they pick a HARDER schedule than any team in any conference. they aren't pick 12 1AA schools to play.

Wow.
You should shut it down. A hatred of ND isn't any grounds for any sort of argument to back up a thing you're saying. they continually pick the toughest schedule possible and maintain enormous standards, academically, while getting back to bringing in the top talent in the country.

There's no need for them to join a conference.

I dunno, I mean I know everything else is Big East but Big 10 has always been pulling for ND. Especially when Penn State left indie to join the Big 10. They were really banking on ND joining it too.

Like Broken said....if It wasn't for the TV Contract maybe ND would join a conference. Or at least when a conferences offers to let ND keep their contract(which woudl never happen)

I mean the bulk of their schedule usually consists of Big 10 teams anyway

well not the conference, but the tv that has a contract with that conference would not let them. I do think they'd pretty much be locked into to join the Big East because they already have so much involved in the Big East (Granted Temple is A-10 everything but football (Mac) next year. I doubt they'd join the Big 10 just for football, but that also means someone would have to be dropped from the big 10 conference.

osu's kicking ass with their schedule too. they had texas this year and last. now they're working on doing the same kind of thing with oklahoma, usc and a handful of other schools who are consistently good. there should be quite a few marquee matchups early in the season for osu for a while to come.

if they added a team, i don't see them dropping one. if anything they'd split it into two six team divisions and have a big ten championship game at the end of the year.

conference championship games are huge moneymakers. i think they'd jump at the chance to have one.

i also like that they'll be playing ysu two years in a row. ysu also plays penn state this season. i wish we played that kinda schedule when i was on the team. i'd have killed to play against top level division 1 schools.

So do I, and OSU/ND.

It's sad things aren't like they used to be. Because if how the NC is determined anymore, it's not worth it for schools to go out on the limb with those kind of games. BCS ruined college football.

Don't be suprised man, and I'm not saying Troy Smith isn't Heisman worthy... but through out history there have been some very questionable calls in regards to a ND player winning the Heisman, especially with the QB position.

I forget off hand which QB it was... but one year he didn't even play the 2nd half of the season because he got sent to WWII. He won the heisman by playing a half a season.

oh, i know. if it's neck and neck, brady gets it because of notre dame. but i think smith has a great chance of outplaying him all season.

it's also a different world than it was back then. notre dame still gains a slight advantage, but not as much as it used to.

He'll still win the Heisman if they lose like last year. If he has a great game and they lose because of a USC field goal or a TD or something at the last couple of seconds..that's not his fault.
