Medium = good ratings + emmy noms. Surface = no ratings + no emmy noms. It was awfully shocking wasn't it.

when no one watches a show, it USUALLY gets cancelled, unless it has a really devoted fanbase (See: Arrested Development (for a time), and Veronica Mars)
