im sorry, i really dont know why people like this movie. its some of the most amateur filmmaking i have ever seen, its painful to watch and its not even funny or memorable. some scenes bleed tarantino ripoff. why is this movie a cult classic? its a fucking joke.

Well, it may be a cult classic because a reasonably large number of people disagree with your viewpoint. Just a guess.

no shit its a tarantino rip off...troy duffy even admitted it.
no shit its amateur...duffy was an amateur filmmaker.
which makes the movie what it is. it has some very witty lines besides the fact that the director was some unknown bartender who just got lucky.

It's just a damn fun action movie with some powerful scenes in it. Don't be so anal about it, it's entertainment.

I can see SOME of it in the dialogue, but Boondock Saints is more straightforward, while Tarantino movies are chopped up and out of order, plot wise

the standoff scene is a trademark of tarantino films...
though the standoff for him is usually a mexican standoff.
you know 5 or six people all standing around point guns at everyone.
the flashback scene is reminiscent of quentin. the absurd usage of fuck, all the blood, etc.
its not horrible or anything, but its overrated

this movie is a cult classic because its crazy good. the characters and acting are good, and come on: willem defoe is in it. nuff said,.

sir, please.
I agree with this poster (for the most part). I saw Boon awhile ago (because it was a cult hit) and I liked it. But it definetly does not warrant all the attention it gets. The direction is just...cheesy, the acting is hillarious at times, and the pseudo-twist 3/4 of the way in, is laughable.
It's a good flick, and I have the DVD, but it's not as great as everyone says. It's certainly not good enough to accuse someone of having bad taste for, because they don't like it.

I liked it, but it was definitely overrated. The ending could have been so much better, and that's probably what ruined it for me.

What an ignorant post. Just say you don't like it, just because it doesn't appeal to you does not mean it sucks.

Oh wait. He wasn't praising Tarantino.
He was doing this thing called "compare and contrast."
Did you drop out before they taught that to you, son?

yeaaaa......you should take a film class.
the movie is an absolute mess. terrible editing. a majority of the actors couldnt act out of a paper bag. the pacing is way off balance. yes the standoff scene is a total tarantino knock. the dialogue is second rate. the twist is so fucking ridiculous and unbelievable. the interview ending is wayyyy pretentious. william dafoe is a great actor, i will give you that....but his performance is just over the top.
I got it on dvd, but never got around to watch it. And by definition for a movie to be a cult classic, does it have to bomb in theatres? That question was on The Loop on AOTS.

I love it when people get so high and mighty that to enjoy a film, or have good taste in a movie, you MUST have gone to film school.

agreed, not a bad movie, but way overrated. people who list this as a favorite movie need to see more movies.
i enjoyed the movie quite a bit the first time i saw it, but after that first time all the flaws became more and more apparent. at this point to tell the truth, i'm kinda embarassed to have it in my collection.
seriously, how many cops wildly fire their gun into the air while investigating a crime scene?
