I can't believe we got a first either, but at the same time, I really hope Gabriel and Jackson get with it fast because we need receivers. It's going to be hard to be elite with no top receivers (Excluding tight ends).

Darrell Jackson is still hurt. They lost Jurevicius in the offseason.
Step up to the plate, Deion, you're the #1 in Seattle til the Ying-Yang Twins' clone gets back into shape

he is a great big target for brady, brady has been used to all these fucking little shit 5 foot recievers that he had to spread the ball out, with dillon and maroney ripping the run that will open it for dump passes to the big te. he will get close to a 1000 maybe not a 1000, but hes a good target in the red zone when they need to pass.

I posted this in the general but look at some of Seattle's contracts:
Walter Jones $49 million
Nate Burleson $49 million
Julian Peterson $54 million
Deion Branch $36 million
Shaun Alexander $62 million
Matt Hasselbeck $49 million
Darrell Jackson $25 million

Don't overexcite yourself. Maroney tore it up against the Bills defense. Big fucking deal. That's like Barry Sanders running for 400 against a Pop Warner team at age 65.
That's how bad the Bills D is.

Yeah, I'm sure he will be. I just don't think anyone should expect a 1700-2000 yard season of him just because he gashed the Bills D....just like every other RB in the last 20-ish games.

He's not selfish, look at the cheap team he played for.
I'm talking about what they've done this off-season in general
They're relying on a washed up Junior Seau to help their LB corps, Rodney Harrison's bionic leg to help the secondary that still lacks a good corner, and they now have a WR depth chart with 50 year old Troy Brown, 2nd round pick Chad Jackson that can't even stay healthy to practice, Doug "Oakland damaged goods" Gabriel, Reche Caldwell (bust), and some practice squad type players. They're also relying on Maroney to be a dominant rookie (which is possible, but he needs to do more than tear up Buffalo) a rookie kicker to fill Vinatier's shoes, and Ben Watson to be the next Gates, when the guy's all potential, nothing proven.
And they'll still win at least 9 games because of their shitty division (and from yesterday's game, the refs still love them).

he skipped training camp and has been nothing but a baby all this offseason even though he had a year left on his contract. not to mention he did this on a team where the best qb in the league took less money than he's worth so to not put the team in a rough situation signing other players.
if that's not selfish, then i need to relearn what the word means.

Actually Brady's making $5M more this year than the real best QB in the league.
Branch should not be paid a little over $1M for this season. He did the right thing.

And those 4 interceptions by Manning weren't as costly as the 2 Brady threw against Denver this past year.

Vinatieri is good, but any kicker can kick three kicks and become a super-star. They were crucial, yes, and I will always love him for it, but any other good kicker in the league could of done with he did.
Also, your assessment of the Pat's WR/TE core is the most pessimistic assessment.

I dont believe this for one second. Look at Mike Vanderjagt, he's the most accurate (and arguably best) kicker in the league today and he missed a kick that was only in a playoff game, not the Super Bowl. The pressure that Vinatieri faced on THREE separate occasions was more than any player ever has to deal with, he's a clutch kicker. He will get into the Hall for this reason.

I agree with this, and while it's ridiculous what he did I believe the pats should've paid him. Why? Well when your QB who is taking less money than he's worth to stay with the team and he wants this guy there, I think you should listen to him. I'm sure he's very comfortable with Branch and was looking forward to having him as a threat.
It's guys like TO that make the other players think that theyre better than the team and get away with this shit. Could you imagine doing that at a real job:
"Yeah I'm not going to be able to work today, sorry about that."
Then when the big presentation comes he jumps right in and act as if nothing happened. For as someone in as amazing of physical shape as he is, a hamstring should not deter him.

I agree, mostly. The only part that I can understand with NFL players is that teams do not have to guarantee the entire portion of their contract.

Seattle isn't desperate for a WR at all, which is why this trade is somewhat weird to me. Darrell Jackson is 90% healthy, he played last week and caught 3 or 4 passes. We just picked up Nate Burleson. Bobby Engram is one of the best clutch, slot receivers in the game. Now Branch? Hm. I don't know how I feel about it. I know he's a threat, but I'm just not sure if he's what we need. I don't care that much about the draft pick for him because he's a better player than the 30th pick or whatever we'll get in 07, I just feel like the WR position is a little overloaded at this point now.

The Ray Lewis one is fucking hilaaaaaarious, such a stretch. That's when the Madden Curse was broken, they had to pull something out of their asses to make it work. Same with the Eddie George one. Dude made a mistake, his team still made the playoffs, and they call THAT the Madden curse? How can you not see through that? I thought you, of all people, would have more sense than to believe that kind of stuff. I love how they already added Shaun Alexander too, that's so funny. Nevermind the fact that Larry Johnson had a shitty game too. Nope, must be that madden curse.

They weren't, the Gators were a much better team, the real mismatch was always Spurrier vs. Fulmer. People try and use the Tee Martin excuse, yet look past the fact that Tee Martin only threw for 64 yards against a shittier Florida team that year in a game they escaped with a win in overtime.
If I lived in Utah I might like the mail man, but basketball is a much different sport, where one player actually can carry a team to victory, because he's playing both sides of the ball and is only one of five guys on the court.

Done more? Not as an individual he hasn't, and hard to say he's had less around him. The best coaching staff, an elite defense, and the most clutch kicker are the kind of things any QB would want.
Branch's numbers are hurt by their gimmicky offense. If they ran more traditional 3 WR/1 TE sets, Branch would have those numbers. Injuries have also hurt his numbers.

Jerry Porter is not worth a 1st round pick however.
The only reason Branch was worth a 1st round pick was because Seattle is desperate, their pick would be low most likely, similar to a Jets 2nd rounder, and they do not need their picks as much as the Pats who are aging for the most part in key positions on defense.
It was a great trade for the Pats especially if their running game can be effective. The Pats will make the playoffs, but they're not a super bowl team. Two first round picks could bring them back. A whiny, injury prone WR is not.
