View Full Version : The Non Official Prison Break Question

So about a week ago I decided to finally give in and give Prison Break a try. I've heard only good things and I don't think anyone can deny that when Fox is good, it's good (if you sift through the other 90%).

I'm only about halfway through the first season and I love it, the characters are great and it's a really engaging story. My worry would be that episodes would be leading up to a climax and wouldn't be interesting by themselves. I'm glad I was wrong.

So I'm aware that there are other threads on this show, and I have read them, but now I have a more focused question.

Are the following seasons worth watching?

I know that the first season is the best in nearly everyone's opinion, I'm just curious if it is even worth it. It doesn't have to be great, just enough that I won't feel my time was stolen from me by mediocrity.

Your opinions are greatly appreciated. I ask, please, no spoilers. I'm pretty engaged in the story so I would like it to continue to be surprised.

I already know they break out after the first season, so for purposes of this thread I don't consider that a spoiler. Why would I put it in Spoiler code you ask? Because I'm not a fucking hypocrite ;-)

Stop after season 1.

Stop - 1

Continue - 0

Thank you.

EDIT: Don't worry I'm not going to do this every time :yuk:

I think Season 2 is worth watching. I only say that because Kellerman (my favorite) is in the limelight a little more. But the rest you can definitely skip.

Definitely stop after 2 at the most. Season 1 was fantastic. 2 made some sense and was decent. Not nearly as engaging as the first season but not a complete disaster. Seasons 3 and 4 were horrific. Just absolutely some of the worst things I've watched on television.

Wow that bad?

I figured it was just bad in comparison. Not actually awful.

So far into this thread I'm thinking I'll probably continue with 2 (after I'm done watching the Wire for the first time)

EDIT: I just saw you posted this as one of your favorite shows in your profile. You probably know what you're talking about haha.

I see you have the OC as one of your favorite shows. You know how by the end of Season 4 of the OC you were most likely just thanking god it was over because of how ridiculous the storyline is. That's how Season 4 of Prison Break was only worse. It made no logical sense

Haha good comparison. Although I thought the last episode was well done. I couldn't even watch the fourth season with my full attention, I was always doing something else I was so bored.

Finale was good. I liked how Ryan ended up asking that kid if he needed help at the very end. Everything else about that season was horrendous. I don't even want to think about the Taylor storyline ever again. Truly terrible. That alternate universe episode was hilariously awful though

Haha the only thing they were missing was a musical episode.

Ryan talking to the kid was my favorite scene too, I know I teared up the first time.

I remember when Autumn Reeser (Taylor) showed up on Entourage I was just like, are you kidding?

Musical episode would've probably ended up being 45 minutes of Peter Gallagher singing country songs

Haha I actually liked her in Entourage. That episode with David Schwimmer was great

Maybe Seth doing a sad indie song too.

Yeah I have no problem with her as an actress she just brought back memories of her character on the OC.

"Wow so it's kinda like Raymond meets the Loveboat, how about I just shoot myself in the fucking face right now"

Haha I loved that episode.

Stop after 2. I though 2 was a fantastic season that went well with Season 1. Season 3 is a piece of shit. And the rest is decent to bad.

Thank you. Seems to be the consensus.

Did anyone like anything past 2?

S1 was near-perfection, two was very solid and introduced a great character in Alexander Mahone, a really good foil for all of Michael's smarts..

The problem with three, apart from the fact that it was shortened due to the WGA strike is that it began to get very repetitive...and it was ugly. By that I'm referring to the color palette in the location. I don't know, the show just started getting very drab and taxing to watch. Season four had a couple of moments that made you stand up and cheer like it was an old school 24 episode, but by that point the production team had lost it.
Stupid Brett Ratner. Anything his name is tied to ends badly.

Enjoy the remainder of Season 1 though, it truly is a wonderdul piece of work.

Agreed with everyone here. Go to the end of Season 2.

Season 3 has a truly ridiculous plot development, and Season 4 is so abysmal that you'll be cursing yourself for having the endurance to go through with it.

I had no intention of staying up all night but I couldn't stop watching the first season (I even fought through an ambien). It really is powerful stuff. I'm currently watching the episode that explains how they all got there and the writing is just genius.

I'm glad the 2nd is at least watchable because since I'm almost done with season 1, I'm sure I'm going to have some questions.

Thank you for the response.

I actually really liked Seasons 1 - 3, having never seen 4 before I watched about a month ago. They really dropped the ball. So amazingly disappointing

Agree that season 1 and 2 are great, when I first saw 3 I thought it was crap, but I watched them all again and I enjoyed 3 a whole lot more so I would definitely give it a shot its only 13 episodes, I rewatched 4 and it still sticks out in a bad way but I thought the Final Break was a great way to tie things up, so you might have to sit through 4 just for the Final Break

Might I ask what the Final Break is?

I would google it but I've been trying to stay away from anything that would cause spoilers.

At the end of Season 4 there is a flash forward. The Final Break is two episodes put together which explains what happens between the end of the season and the flash forward. They aren't necessary for the main plot, and I couldn't bother watching them.

Seasons 1-3 are so golden. Fours kinda not as good. The last ten minutes of season 4/The Final break should be deleted from existence IMO.

If you've got the time, watch them all. If not, stop after 2, if you can. It [suprisingly] becomes quite predictable and there is a stint of about 4 episodes where nothing happens

its basically a two hour roundup of everyones story and how they have ended up, I thought it was really cool and I would definitely recommend seeing it, without sounding too lame, it kinda brings closure haha

I watched this show every week when it was on starting from the pilot and I loved it. As everyone has said, season 1 is amazing. I'll admit it does get worse with each season, but I still enjoyed seasons 2-4. I'm currently rewatching the whole series from the beginning.

I'm still treading my way through the second season. I finished the first in a few days because each episode brought me back wanting to see what happens next.

I find I enjoy the second season as I watch it, but I don't really care anymore. It's just kind of something I watch when I have nothing else. I wouldn't call it bad (Of course I haven't gotten to the 3rd yet), it's just increasingly harder to care.

Yea I can see what you mean. Like I said, I started watching from the pilot when it aired and I was hooked so I was going to see it through til the end even if it sucked haha. But personally I enjoyed the whole series. It's just with this type of plot, they were stretching pretty far after the first season, which right now I can't stop watching because it's so good haha.

First season is something of legends.

Shows are always better when you watch them on Tv from when they first aired till the end.

I don't do that very often, but Monk and Nip/Tuck come to mind.

Oh man, I forgot how intense this first season is as I've been rewatching it. I just watched episode 14 of season 1 and the scene where Lincoln is talking to LJ on the phone before being taken to the chair (and the whole rest of the episode from that point) is just crazy intense. I seriously felt bad even though I've seen the series before haha.
