Erin’s (Drew Barrymore) wry wit and unfiltered frankness charm newly single Garrett (Justin Long) over beer, bar trivia and breakfast the next morning. Their chemistry sparks a full-fledged summer fling, but neither expects it to last once Erin heads home to San Francisco and Garrett stays behind for his job in New York City But when six weeks of romping through the city inadvertently become meaningful, neither is sure they want it to end. And while Garrett’s friends, Box (Jason Sudeikis) and Dan (Charlie Day), joke about his pre-flight calorie-cutting and his full-time relationship with his cell phone, they don’t like losing their best drinking buddy to yet another rocky romance. At the same time, Erin’s high-strung, overprotective married sister, Corrine (Christina Applegate), wants to keep Erin from heading down an all-too-familiar road. But despite the opposite coasts, the nay-saying friends and family, and a few unexpected temptations, the couple just might have found something like love, and with the help of a lot of texting, sexting and late-night phone calls, they might actually go the distance.

I know I'm probably the biggest Barrymore fanboy here, but it's got Charlie Day Jason Suedekis Jim Gaffigan Christina Applegate and Ron Livingston too! Plus apparently the script is a hard R

yeah I will be seeing this just for Day, Suedekis, and Gaffigan

Didn't Charlie already dance to that song? Looks pretty good, killer cast.

Wish she wasn't in it. Otherwise great comedic cast. I hope Sudeikis pops.

Surprisingly better trailer than I was expecting. Charlie makes me happy.

I laughed so hard at "They came in so fast I didn't know where to go."
Also Sudeikis and Day are a big plus.

I'm a fan of pretty much everybody in the cast so I'm looking forward to this.

I read the screenplay for this movie last summer. It's actually pretty smart and funny. It's definitely littered with guy humor but after seeing the trailer I'm afraid they might have "softened" it so they could market to a female audience. For all the Charlie Day fans out there, I can tell you that he has some hilarious scenes.

according to the EW summer movie preview and imdb it's still R, sure there will be a red band trailer or two

Good to hear! I've been excited to see this one from the moment I finished the script. Hopefully we will get that red band trailer very soon.

American Teen was the most underrated movie of '08, I seriously have no clue why it didn't get enormously popular. This should be good now that I've seen the trailer.

It's not going to have nearly enough Day and Suedekis.

It's not going to have nearly enough Day and Suedekis.
But it will have enough Long, which will make up for that in my opinion.

This is true. Congrats on the 20K.

Really? He's the only one in the cast I could do without. Just don't think he's funny at all.

I feel like anyone who makes this statement clearly hasn't seen his bit in Zack and Miri, and if you have then SHAME ON YOU! He was also my favorite part of Youth in Revolt. And Accepted was great.

Brandon St. Randy is one of the best characters in the past 10 years, imo. Him ad-libbing those porn titles is some of the funniest shit I have ever seen in my entire life.

I hope Burstein finally gets some respect after this film. She was/is a fabulous documentarian, her last two films were both incredible, and she should be much more well-known. Plus she has a kickass name.

Thank you. I seriously just didn't care if it was "staged" or whatever people wanted to accuse it of. When a movie is that great and engaging, who gives a shit?

I never once thought about that or really cared. I didn't want to stop watching the kids by the time it was over. Mission: Accomplished.

TJ Wells
06/03/10, 07:33 PM
For anyone who doesn't know, there was this big controversy about whether or not Burstein "set up" certain events to take place in the film. My opinion is, if it makes a good movie, who gives a shit?

TJ Wells
06/03/10, 07:33 PM
I really thought it'd end up (at least) a huge hit and (at most) an Oscar frontrunner. I was sadly wrong on both fronts.

Haha I totally don't get that! Because I haven't seen Grizzly Man! Shit! How many people can say "I've seen ONE Werner Herzog film. And it's Land of Silence and Darkness!" Probably just me. And I have Netflix Instant to thank for that.

Hah, shit, you fucker. Well, on top of Grizzly Man, watch more Herzog. Bad Lieutenant, Rescue Dawn, Aguirre, Nosferatu, and Signs of Life are all great.

But anyway, it's the audio tape of the guy that gets eaten getting eaten. He gives it to his old lady and tells her to never listen to it and destroy it in the most absurdly dramatic way possible, haha. Definitely a filmmaker being a filmmaker.

yeah reviews not dissuading me too much, an eh comedy is usually better than an eh drama, plus if the trailer makes me laugh I'm sure the movie will
still weird we never got a red band considering how vulgar this apparently is

The fact that it's rated R is what really makes me want to see this movie. If it was another pg13 rom com, I probably wouldn't think twice. But the cast is 90% awesome and the trailer looks good. Should be a good date movie.

I thought it was absolutely hysterical. I was literally in tears at one point Long and Barrymore start fucking on the table and it pans over to Gaffigan eating a sandwich. God damn, I lost it.

But yeah, Charlie was phenomenal and really made the movie overall, as I expected. Christina Applegate was also pretty hilarious and so, so beautiful.

"No, gross....yes it is!"

Super underrated and caught a bad rap for a reason I don't know. My girlfriend and I both loved it.

I really enjoyed this. Way more than I expected to. Kinda cheesy at times, and not a huge Barrymore fan, but I laughed my ass off.

"He goes crazy, he's FURIOUS with his penis or something. Angry masturbation, which is dangerous. You can really injure yourself, so..."

I really enjoyed this. Was a lot funnier than I expected it to be. Justin Long is the man.

I felt like the first half of the movie was more focused on Long's character, and the second half was more focused on Barrymore's character.

This is so true. I don't laugh much when I watch things by myself, but I was laughing out loud so much when I watched this tonight. I thought it was hilarious, I can't believe this has gone under the radar this year. Forget Easy A, She's Out Of My League and whatnot. This was awesome.

I saw this movie the other day and I didn't want to at first because I mean, Justin Long, come on.
Just as I expected this movie was horrible the only thing that made this bearable was Charlie Day.
