Springsteen easily. His music is untouchable as far as American rock and roll goes.

I hate Petty's voice, and I don't like his music at all. He was pretty good in Traveling Wilburys though.
As for Springsteen, he's immensely over rated. There are so many American rock acts that are so much better. Ever heard of The Doors? Bob Dylan? Chicago? The Doobie Brothers? Jimi Hendrix? Crosby, Stills, Nash (and Young, but he's Canadian, and the released good music without him too)? The list goes on.
I can't stand that brand of rock that Springsteen is best known for. That Nebraska album is cool, but stuff Like Born to Run and Born in the USA are just crap in my opinion.
Him and Brian Adams... two guys I can't take.

Fair enough. You have to give Springsteen credit where credit was due, though. He really gave the industry that straight rock and roll sound when there was nobody else to step up and do it.
Brian Adams is shit. At least we agree on that.

They both have kind of a nasally voice, but Petty's is different... it almost sounds like he has a perpetually stuffy nose. I think Andrew sings out a lot better, and his voice just sounds better to begin with. Not to mention his music is a lot better too. I really can't take that Petty/Mellencamp/Springsteen brand of rock. Not to say that they're they sound exactly the same, but it just does nothing for me. It sounds so manufactured, bland and cheesy.

Yeah... not at all. Nice try though.
Tom Petty is a genius. No one is able to craft such simple, yet intelligent, songs that continue to resonate with so many different generations. The new single off of Mojo is amazing. Bruce is the boss. He is the most popular of the three here, and rightfully so. He has touched so many lives, and truly captures the New Jersey work ethic, plus brought Rock N' Roll back in the late 1970s (down with Disco!). Bon Jovi will catch A LOT of shit on this site. They are completely underrated and it is a shame that for such a large catalog, only "Living On A Prayer" is, more times then not, the only song people know. It is a shame that people do not look at their entire catalog. Bon Jovi is so much more than just 80's hair metal, sing-along-in-a-bar-ala-Journey fair... as four decades of being on top have proven. These Days from 1995 is one of the greatest albums of all time. It is original, their hardest sounding album, and their least known. Judge Bon Jovi after listening to These Days. "Hey God" is my favorite song. I <3 all 3 though...went with Petty.

Wrong.
Getting the opinion of an American is pointless... too blinded by patriotism to judge the music based on the music, which is sub par. Trust me, I know music, I know rock music, and Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, and especially John Bongiovi do not make good rock music. Not even good American rock music. Look back at the list I posted; all better than those three.
Word to the wise: I grew up in the US, I've lived in Canada for a total of nine out of me 23 years. Lived in the US from age six to nineteen.

I'm not gonna argue everybody on the list that you mentioned, but I'll go ahead and take two examples that I personally love, The Doors and Jimi Hendrix, both of which I think of as worse then Springsteen.
The Doors are a great band, but their music doesn't carry the same ability to be relatable as a Petty or Springsteen (Jovi doesn't really either). The music is fantastic and Jim Morrison had a great voice, and while some songs are really well written it's pretty obvious that others were just drug fueled rants. Now, I've got nothing against bands using drugs or anything like that, but after a while it gets hard to really connect to a song about the singer being the Lizard King.
Hendrix is a bit different, because I think a good number of his songs are as iconic and classic as the best of Petty and Springsteen. But Hendrix still doesn't carry the same strength as a songwriter. On just musicianship alone I think he easily beats out the other three, but when you take the entire song into account, I think he gets beat.
Springsteen, however (at least in his early work and some of the more recent stuff), is a better fusion of songwriting talent backed up by musicianship. He writes songs that can capture feelings that lots of people all over the world feel (since he's successful in Europe and areas of Central/South America too). You don't have to be American to get alot of his songs. As for not playing good rock music, it's pretty hard to say that a song like "Jungleland" or "Rosalita" isn't a good rock n'roll song. Plus, the band he has on his second album (slightly different from the E Street Band) is as talented musically as anybody on that list. Even if it doesn't sound as flashy, it's well constructed, tightly played music that draws from a lot of different areas and blends them seemlessly. Springsteen has also been able to change his sound pretty well over the years, more so then alot of the bands you listed (although some died, so I guess that's not their fault). Obviously some changes worked (Nebraska, The Seeger Sessions) and some were regrettable (Lucky Town...), but to be able to have such a famous sound and shift it the way he's done in the past takes skill.
That being said: Springsteen, then Petty, then Bon Jovi (but really only for long drives or karaoke)
