The Draft (http://www.myspace.com/thedraftmusic) – 3/4 of Hot Water Music. Throaty anthems abound. I haven't been too into Epitaph bands over the past couple years, but this I like.
Street Dogs (http://www.myspace.com/streetdogs) – Former Dropkick Murphy Mike McColgan are back and Fading American Dream is so militant and political that it makes Savin Hill look Disney-fied.
Matt Pond PA (http://www.myspace.com/mattpondpa) – “Measure 3” is probably my favorite song ever…by any band. This band’s orchestral pop is music that I’ll still be listening to when I’m eighty. Timeless.
Calico System (http://www.myspace.com/calicosystem) – They Live opens like a slug to the chest and doesn’t relent. One of the few sing/scream bands that can switch back and forth without losing their edge.
Blast From The Past:
504 Plan (http://www.myspace.com/504plan) – Being a teacher, I’m a sucker for an education-related band name. 504 Plan started back in 1999, but didn't officially release anything until 2002. That release came in the form a 9 song cd on LLR (Feeling Left Out, The Academy). If you're into Chicago soft-core bands like Showoff, Knockout, and Fall Out Boy, give "Winter In Chicago" a listen.
