Restrepo (http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/restrepo/)
Winner of the 2010 Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize for a Documentary, RESTREPO chronicles the deployment of a U.S. platoon of courageous American soldiers in Afghanistan's Korengal Valley, considered to be one of the most dangerous postings in the U.S. military. From May 2007 to July 2008, Tim Hetherington and Sebastian Junger dug in with the men of the Second Platoon, Battle Company of the 503rd Infantry Regiment (airborne), stationed at Restrepo, sharing duties and shooting more than 150 hours of combat, frustration, routine, jokes, terror and bravery during daily life at the outpost. Hetherington and Junger, have made a film unlike any other about men in harm’s way. We see their courage. We experience their frustrations. We share their bonding. We hear the music they listen to, and we see the snapshots of their kids that they pass around. It is something that audiences have never before experienced. As they fight the Taliban, these 15 men win our hearts and minds in a way no fictional film can.

I'm also interested in reading Junger's book on the subject, War (http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.co m%2FWAR-Sebastian-Junger%2Fdp%2F0446556246%3Fie%3DUTF 8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1275150933%26 sr%3D1-1&tag=httpwwwabso04-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325).

I've heard some great things. Expecting it to be on a lot of end of the year lists, as well as in the Oscar hunt.

Watch this last night. The Blink-182 song really hit home. Re-enforced the fact that the guys over there are no different from me.
Watched this a few nights ago on Netflix. Loved it

Oh Shit! Best of luck man...I did almost seven years. Best advice I can give you going into Basic is to just keep your mouth shut and don't debate anything the drill sergeants tell you. What they say is the gospel during your stay there.
If you graduate Basic Training and they still look at you thinking "Who the fuck are you?" then consider yourself an honor graduate. Literally. If you bring attention to yourself, you'll get it....but you don't want it, promise.

Haha I'm not looking for anything like that at all. I'll follow orders without question. I'm just going into this blind and out of shape.

Haha I was fat as shit when I went in. I dunno if you know much about the Army PT Test, you'll be taking one within the next two days. Anyways out of a possible score of 300, my first score was a 13. It was pretty god damn sad, by the time I left basic training....I was around 250 scorewise and dropped 35 pounds, in 13 weeks.
So don't get discouraged if it starts out rough in the sense of something like that, it gets much better. When you get your first breath of freedom (typically 6-8 weeks in) and get to use a computer/phone/PX, it's pretty much downhill from there. The first few weeks are the worst while they try to scare everybody.
You'll leave that place a new man....especially if you are going to an Infantry/Engineering basic unit (Leonard Wood/Benning).

Thankfully I'm going to Jackson. I'm just trying to get through this and be in much better shape once I get out. I have a 47 week training program after that to look forward to in Arizona. My job is pretty much real life Command and Conquer. Scary and awesome all at the same time.

What the hell are you doing (Job Wise)? Jackson is referred to as "Relaxin' Jackson", so I guess thats good? My buddy is actually a drill sergeant there right now haha.

Damn man....I got a Secret Clearance but not a TOP. From what I hear those are hard as fuck to get but going into MI is no joke. I have a buddy that is actually in school for that right now (about to graduate, I believe) but he's always clogging up facebook about how he loves his new job and all that, as opposed to when we were both Combat Engineers so it sounds like its promising.
I'm guessing you are Active Duty then?

Yeah man. The security clearance stuff is INTENSE. They interviewed somewhere around 60 people that I know. I'm hoping that nothing snags me up in that. I won't know until the end of basic if I'm cleared.
Yeah, active going in for four years.

The big things that people get snagged up on is ANY sort of criminal background history and also poor credit history. They judge you bigtime on a secret clearance, I can only imagine what else they consider for a Top Secret as its awfully prestigious to be awarded one.

RIP. That's very sad to hear. The man put himself through some of the most dangerous situations to tell the stories he wanted to tell and they finally caught up with him. I'm sorry to hear that.
