I know Ronin pulled it out of his ass, but he is right about it being the former. I'm really into sociology, and always enjoy learning about different sub-cultures. Yes, this is definitely weird, but it's certainly interesting. And no, I do not get off on this sort of thing. I saw a link to it in an old column of Savage Love, the sex advice piece that's in the Onion.

Yes, subcultures are always intriguing. I find they give you a glimpse of the true nature of most people. If we didn't have such rigid societal norms, you would definitely see most of this stuff surfacing in the mainstream.
