have any of you heard the new slanderous radio ads?

one talks of martin luther king jr being republican

another one saying the democrats started the ku klux klan

and a third stating that the democrats are trying to keep the blacks poor

i mean seriously...even if the first one is true...which is prob the only one they can really check...the other two do not need to be said.

i guess the reps are THAT desperate.

Well it was Abe Lincoln (a republican) that outlawed slavery.

However also this,

Nope. Rather the opposite. It's a pretty well known historical fact that the southern democrats had a bad racist streak...right into the 1960's with all the racial tension then. Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act against the demands of much of his party, and was warned if he signed the segregationist faction of the democratic party would leave the party. He is famous for having said it was a law more important than the political party he belonged to, and signed anyway. Sure enough, a huge number of democrats in the south left the party and became republicans, and that began the huge upswing in power of the Republicans that has dominated political life in America ever since. So, in a sense, modern democrats are likely to be much less racist than historical democrats.

Also Sen Byrd of NC (D) is a KKK Wizard supposedly. Also, the KKK was started by confederate officers who just wanted to revolt against the government. Once the group became overly racist, alot of the early members left.

Which is why the Republican party has become more like the the traditional Democrat party - big government, free-trade, etc.

And I do know in NJ the urban communities have not become greatly wealthier.

Most people join parties just to fund their campaigns. And then their votes are swung by lobbyists and interest groups. No matter who the party. Democrats are just as bad as Republicans when it comes to campaigning. I don't think the Reps are that desperate considering the Dems are losing in NJ.

you can't compare modern day political parties to parties 100 years ago, or even 40 years ago for that matter, things are completely different now

.

Actually the second one is the only one that can be truthfully checked.

I doubt they are terrified. Right not they pretty much control the executive branch and the supreme court and they may lose republicans in generally democrat states.

You're one hundred percent wrong. Every thing they've said is true, Their president is one of the most influential men of our generation, and liberals actually paid for those commercials.

well, you should also remind most people that the definition of Republican and Democrat flip flopped a few times through the course of history...to say that Lincoln was a Republican to make Democrats of TODAY look bad is incorrect...What should be said is that even tho he was a Republican, today he'd be a Democrat.

Most of the rest of ur stuff I'll take ur word on but overall, the labels of Democrat and Republican fuck things up more. It's better to stick to conservative and liberal.

who listens to the radio anyway?

i havent heard them. i was watching cnn (im a nerd) and they had a prominent black dude being interviewed about the radio ads. and he voiced his disbelief at the absurdity of the ads.

dont you think the reps would have gotten the point after last years gubernational elections that you cant win just by slandering the other side? i remember in nj the reps tried to make corzine look bad by just stating that his ex wife said he was a bad person while corzine actually stated what he wanted to get done.

nevertheless corzine won. the reps are pretty much done for.

another one saying the democrats started the ku klux klan

This would technically be true. The KKK was started by frustrated Southerners after the Civil War, who, at the time would have been called Democrats.

i think it's a bad ad for the simple reason that's been pointed out that political parties have changed so much.

Should be noted though that I dont see many of you saying it's "desperate", "or digging a hole" when liberals blame Bush for 9/11. Rather that's considered "an interesting theory"

i dont blame bush for 9/11.

but i think whats going on now is very desperate. the reps have lost a lot of votes from what has happened recently. black have tended to vote democrats recently so winning that group would be huge.

Ha - however, it is the truth.I honestly believe that some polititions have more to bring to the table than a lack of lying, and if you're talking about American politics in the past as well, then that's just insanity.

Yes, they do, usually when it comes to the house. But the Senate, Governmental, Presidential debates and agendas are rarely ever used after the election. The only reason Clinton got put in office was because he lied to the Union workers and then Bob Dole was just way too shitty, similar to Kerry.

Couldn’t agree more, that’s exactly why politics should be looked at just like a sport.

The winner is not the one with the best idea, but the one who can sell himself the best, manipulate the voters best, demonize his opponent the best and scare the weak the best. A true showmen can win in politics even if his belief don't correspond to the majority of voters.
