Essential Nintendo DS games

I am planning on getting a DS Lite and was wondering what games to get. So far on my list is Animal Crossing.

Any "need to get" games for the DS?

Mario Kart DS <-- best Mario Kart EVAR.
Advance Wars Dual Strike <-- I have over 100 hours put into this game.
New Super Mario Brothers <-- It's the first new sidescrolling Mario since the SNES.
Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney <-- Best story, music, characters, um... best everything.
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow <-- Best Castlevania since Symphony of the Night.

Hmm, those are the MUST own but there are some other awesome games...

I would not get Animal Crossing. The game isn't as fun now that less people are playing it.

Mario Kart DS is superior to Mario Kart 64 in every way imaginable. Mario Kart 64 never even had very good racing (big open tracks = boring) so Mario Kart DS blows it away there, not to mention it has twice as many tracks (16 new + 16 classic, 4 from each previous Mario Kart.) Battle mode is a close one but seeing as DS has 8 player battle mode and Block Fort from the 64 game is back it wins out. Add in online which is barebones but still super fun and DS has an easy win.

Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, and Mario 64 DS is what I have, and I'm doing alright. I do really want to check out the Resident Evil DS though.

As a game, I do think DS is slightly better. There are many more levels, and more karts. But I like the controls and controller much better for 64. Plus online isn't as fun as playing with people right there, and while you could technically do that by getting everyone in the same room, it wouldn't be the same. I rather dislike the online experience, as you can't communicate at all (which is understandable to protect the younger audience), but it's a very sterile environment.

So I'll amend my statement to say I liked the experience of playing MK64 better.

I don't own a DS, but I always jump on the chance to play one whenever I see one, and warioware is probably the most fun I've had with a game in a while.

I don't have a DS of my own but a bunch of my friends do so whenever I get a hand on theirs' I usually play Trauma Center. It's different and interesting. The 'classic' nintendo games are great too like New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart.

I'm a huge DS supporter but honestly the two GBA Wario Ware games are better than the DS version.

Well the only DS games I have are Trauma Ceneter, Castlevania, and Super Mario 64, and they are all pretty solid.

ANy word on Final Fantasy 3? I'm pretty stoked for that.
