Which song is better? "Konstantine" by Something Corporate or "Brick" by Ben Folds Five?

Please explain..

brick has such a powerful, emotional back story that i feel a lot of people don't know about.

i'll get a lot of hate for this, but:

ben folds (and ben folds five) > SoCo

KONSTANTINE. the song gives you all the meaning you need.

I have tons of respect for Ben.... but I just can't get into his music and not a huge fan of his voice. :-(

Or, you know, if you believe Ben himself on his live album...

Anyway, as much as I like "Brick", "Konstantine" has so many memories attached to it.

Yeah, I heard him tell the story live. But I don't remember anything other than him saying it was about his girlfriend getting an abortion.

Completely agree. "Konstantine" is a nice love song but "Brick" fucking wrenches my stomach every time I hear it. And I don't even like Ben Folds. Like you said, it's a very powerful and emotional song. And it hits home, hard.

Obviously you don't realize the emotional distress that such a choice can have on a couple, especially when the male feels absolutely helpless to do anything to make the person he loves feel any comfort at all in such a difficult time.

Or I heard it a long time ago and can't remember specifically what he said...

I can completely understand the emotional distress of the situation and it's absolutely a powerful song. Just because I don't completely remember the back story doesn't void my ability to comprehend the situation.

No, the song is definitely about an abortion, plain and simple. I have heard him say this in numerous interviews and back when the song was on the radio I remember it being discussed a lot.

Edit: I think I misinterpreted you originally. Wrapping it up so tightly as "this song is about his girlfriend getting an abortion" really only touches the surface. I don't think it's about her abortion as much as his inability to cope with it.

Haha yeah. I think this was kind of a misunderstanding. We're absolutely on the same page. This song is about Ben having to deal with it (or not being able to), which is an interesting take because most stories you hear about abortions are from the woman's perspective. What I love about Ben Folds is how honest he can be in his music. He isn't afraid to share his experiences and how he feels in a very real, honest and telling way.

i'm getting back way late, i was at bonnaroo. but it's about his high school girlfriend getting an abortion. the chorus is supposed to throw people off and isn't about the same topic the verses are.

i know that this was all explained to you, but i figured i'd respond anyways.

Konstantine is all kinds of fantastic. It has a great story and each time you listen to it, there is another nuance that one can explore. as well, Andrew wrote it in a way so that everyone can relate and apply it to their own life. plus, he name drops JEW <3

you know what's overrated on this site? Brand New and Anthony Green.

SoCo's not nearly as overrated as Jesse Lacey or Anthony Green.
Plus, Andrew McMahon is one of the best dudes on earth.

and as for the poll, i really enjoy bricks, and ben folds in general, but Konstantine is hard to beat for me, konstantine holds a special place in my heart.

Management Information Systems. Most of my friends who started out as engineering majors have switched over to business because it's way easier, haha.

Just heard Brick for the first time, I liked it a lot, but it doesnt have the climax that Konstantine has, and overall the song just seemed to stay in the same place the whole time (Not necessarily a bad thing). Overall, its definitely not fair to compare these two songs. They are both better in different ways. Brick is just a good soft rock/pop song, while Konstantine is a brilliant composition that I can only listen to every now and then because I don't want it to get stale.
I'm not crazy about the main piano part in Konstantine at all. I dont think it fits the song well. But with Brick, the piano is very flavorful.
