View Full Version : let's decide my future

I just finished my first year of college at Saint Mary's College of California in the bay area. Next year i don't know what i want to do. Part of me wants to go back to SMC, but part of me really doesn't want to go back. Here are some reasons:

Stay:
-I already have built some good friendships
-play ice hockey
-live near san francisco/berkeley for SHOWS
-live near berkeley just because i love berkeley.
-class sizes are small
-campus is gorgeous

Leave:
-it costs $30,000 a year
-most people there are all the same (the rich, trendy kids)
-the school is very secluded, more than a mile from any town.
-this one girl i met and became friends with ended up copying everything about me, including my music, my clothes, my friends, and now she drives me nuts. (that's just my little rant)
-did i mention it costs 30 grand a year?
-i got REALLY depressed in the middle of last year, stopped doing work and talking to people. Felt a lot of hate that i never knew i could feel.

Other Options:
-move to Santa Barbara (central coast) and live in an apartment with my cousin who is one of my best friends (she's 21). I would go to Santa Barbara City College. She's been begging me to move down there with her since before i graduated high school.
-Stay home and go to junior college (worst idea EVER).
-find an apartment in the bay area and go to junior college somewhere down there.
-take a year off of school (something i don't really want to do).

As of right now, i'm headed back to SMC, but i don't think it's really the place for me. ahh! i'm at a loss. what do YOU think?

edit: dammit i meant to make this a poll. sorry. just post whatever you think.

Stay if the friendships you have are really good. I wouldnt want to start over with all new people and have to try to make more friends.

you play hockey that's wicked cool and I would say either stay there or move to your cousins but staying there doesn't sound that bad.

yeah, i guess it's mostly a money issue. it sucks. i have huge fucking loans paying for school that i'll be paying back my whole life. and i keep getting the feeling that i'm wasting my money...

I have a friend whose going to SMC next year. If you can afford it i say stay there. thats a really good school, but on the other hand santa barbara is a really cool town and you have a good friend there. Soooo its all just a matter of how far you think SMC will take you

Stay in school. Hell, mine costs 40K a year and I bet you the kids are even worse. I have to go at least 45 minutes for any shows, and there is no subculture. I guess if it's unbearable, you can go elsewhere, but definitely stay in school.

Yeah, Devin's right on this one.
As much as I know you'd love to much up here to the great white north, sticking it out with school is almost definitely the right idea.

All of my friends who did 1 year, then took some time off...well they just never went back. Once you get out of the routine, it's hard to get back in.

Finish out your degree, then take some time off.

And you should major in psychology. Because that's MY kickass major

i haven't taken a single psych class yet, but i am next semester, at saint mary's....i know i should stay, but....but....ahhh!!! it does suck in a lot of ways, and it is good in a lot of ways (at least that's what i tell myself)....... damn this dilemma!

i know how you feel, but I would stay there if you have the cash. Friends are important.

You'd better fuckin' stay. I have a solution to all your problems:

Money - We'll make pretty babies then sell them.
Bothersome girl - You can come over to my apartment and make pretty babies instead of dealing with her.
Seclusion - Being secluded is GOOD because we'll want privacy while making all those pretty babies.

There. See? Everything will be fine next year. Quit fighting it and just come back with me.

neal!!!! dead babies are always fun. how could i miss out and live with myself? is it bad that those are ALL really GREAT points and i'm still having second thoughts?

Okay, I need to make a few points:

1. Second thoughts are oookay......just as long as you disregard them entirely and get yo' fine ass back to St. Mary's with me.
2. Good point about the babies being dead. As soon as they come out and we admire how pretty they are, we'll promptly sit on them until they're dead.
3. I like making lists.
4. I like those crazy faces you use.
5. I think I'll use one on #6.
6.

Leave the Saint Mary's and go to Santa Barbara. You can be a communications major anywhere. So you dont have to be paying that much money, and youll have someone you know who can plug you into the social pipeline
