I play poker tournaments 3 times a week, and I've come in 2nd five times now, and I cannot seem to pull the trigger. Tonight I just got unlucky and was overall happy with my play, but like common.

you have to play a fair amount of hands. calling the small blind is usually a decent idea

It lasted about 4 hands. I had:
J Q suited - All In - She folded
A 8 - All In Call - She had A J and won
10 3 - Called and folded after flop
A 7 - All In - She had pocket 6's and won

sucks you lost to a girl

the best way is to just be aggressive and use reading skills. i would hit up a bookstore and check out mike caro's book of poker tells if you haven't before

Hmm...there's a book of poker tells? I know a few, and I use them to my advantage to get callers.

Tonight I played aggressive, and I was very happy with how I played.

i play a ton of poker here at school

the main thing i can tell you is, just play tight. honestly, i know it gets boring to throw away a lot of hands, but its for the best. just wait til you get a monster hand and raise a decent amount, but not too much to scare off the players.

for example, when you had that first hand heads up, thats a monster hand. dont go all in, you shouldve probably just called or thrown in a small raise, to see if you can milk some more money out of her

sounds like the pushing all in didn't work. gotta raise a few and not all in heads up

Why move all in if you've got her out chipped? No need to push all in when a standard raise would take down the pot and if the opponent calls you can play after the flop.

Yeah. there's more skill to it than just pushing all in every time you have a decent hand.

that's why she was able to win. she read her opponent well

another suggestion i would give is read dan harrington's book. he has a formula that shows you when you should make an all in stand. very helpful
