I have recently been trying to decide what to go to college for and where the best place to go for it is.

I definitely want to go for something within the music industry.
Im VERY interested in Audio Recording and Sound Engineering. But.. Everyone seems to be on the edge about the idea. The thing is I love working with sound live and would really like to do just that.
The second thing I'd like to do would be to manage a band or record company. I don't know what I'd have to go for to do exactly that though. I haven't put much thought into it.

Your imput would be greatly appreciated! Thank you :-)

Check out Umass Lowell for sound engineering. its one of the top 3 SRT (sound recording technology) programs in the country, and its a state school, so its pretty affordable. they also have a pretty highly ranked music business program, which is exactly the thing you'd need to manage a band or record company. I go there for music performance, but I'm around the SRT kids a lot. pm me if you you want to know more

If you don't have a lot of money, SUNY Oneonta is pretty sick

There's a college in Orlando, FL called Full Sail (fullsail.edu)

I have a friend that was going for recording arts.

They also have Music Business, Show Production, Entertainment Business and more.

Hope that helps.

Honestly- I have taken both music business classes and sound engineering classes at a college level. My Personal opinion is that a music business degree is the most useless degree ever. I know people who have completed this and instead of touring with bands or working at a label they work at Walmart. It's the kind of business where you really need some kind of 'in". What I ended up doing was majoring in Accounting/English and I completed a minor in Music Business + Music Production. It's worked so far for me and I'm still able to focus on music and I have an internship at a studio next fall. -

One thing is that if you decide to do either of these go to an art type school to do it. State Schools and most private schools I have found are more self performance intensive than the actual business side. Definitely ask for the requirements for the major before applying.
