It does seem a little bit right-wing, but I suppose its near impossible to be perfectly center, unless you don't care about whether an issue goes one way or the other. Personally, I've got a lot of conservative values, and I have some liberal values. Depends on the issue.

Idealistic is a bit of an understatement.
They're gonna pay down the national debt, secure every port and border, and issue a fair/flat tax that everyone's happy with?
What parallel universe is this party from?

It still gets me how anyone thinks a flat tax can possibly be fair...

I also came in here to recommend the democratic party, was beaten. This is obviously a "troll" party, if you will, attempting to cast the Democrats as more leftist in a time where "leftist" is a dirty word. their views (this "moderate" party) are pretty solidly right-wing.
edit: clicked the BLOG section, first blog entry is "A Good Day For TEA Parties". thoughts fucking confirmed.

"leftist" isn't the dirty word, it's "progressives"! Don't you watch Glenn Beck?? Those damn progressives try to get us to have universal health care and alternative energy sources away from oil. What country do they think this is?! When has this country ever been progressive??
Ugh... all this thread makes me think about is Fox News. *shudders*

"Would the nation be better served if our elected officials made sure that our governments adhered more to the ideals upon which this nation was founded?"
I really do wish that people would stop talking about the Founding Fathers like they're responsible for the freedom we enjoy today. Thank Abraham Lincoln and the Radical Republicans for those. Thank Robert La Follette and the other early 20th century progressives for those. Thank Eugene Debs and the labor movement for making the progressives exist in the first place for those. Thank Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and the rest of the Civil Rights Movement for those. Our history is more than just the dead white men on our money.

I love how conviently people forget things like slavery, pre-Sufferage America, etc., etc.
But yeah, let's go back to the 1700's. I say we start by getting rid of celphones. God I hate celphones.

I love the democratic republic we established in 1789, where state legislatures appointed senators, presidents were elected by legislature-chosen electors, the president appoint(s)ed Supreme Court justices, and the only thing you really voted on for the federal government were representatives. Even then the voting restrictions left out the poor, women, blacks, and Indians.
So basically, I understand why all these honkies at Tea Party rallies want their country back.

Interesting how the lefties in here are quick to dismiss this by insulting the way the website looks...as if that has any fucking bearing on what the moderates stand for...
Basically anything that is not line with them must be dismissed as "right-wing hogwash"...they are intolerant of anything besides far left policy, when in fact this party is in opposition to many conservative views as well as liberal views
And to idiot who commented "how could anyone think a flat tax is fair"...
Use your brain for 30 seconds..
Currently rich corporations use tax loopholes supported by republicans to pay less in tax than everyone else....THAT IS WRONG
Liberals think rich companies should be taxed more...However, what they fail to say to the rest of the voters is that that "course of action", will only lead to those companies laying off workers, cutting benefits, outsourcing, etc...all of which are bad for the average american they claim to represent...THAT IS ALSO WRONG
IN fact they clami to represent minorities...
maybe the minorities should read this...

Which, as someone already made the joke, pretty much is what the democrats are. Don't let the hype machine at Fox convince you they're all commie pinko bastards. Even the furthest left of our elected officials would be considered moderates in Europe.

Actually, liberals believe rich PEOPLE should be taxed more. Rich companies being taxed more hurts in terms of job losses, but it's going to stay that way because most Americans are have their heads too far up their own asses and would refuse to pay more taxes, liberals and conservatives alike.
Honestly the best thing for this country would be to raise the taxes on the people, with the top teir being a about 50-55%, and lowering all the taxes on companies so they stop sending their jobs overseas. More jobs, more tax revenue coming in.
Now try explaining that to the American people. Hah.

I shit you not, somebody told me they would move to Canada and become a lumberjack if Obama got a second-term. To escape the socialism of the United States, he'd flee to a country where same-sex marriage is legal, health care is payed for by the government, and abortion is hardly an issue.

My favorite was Rush Limbaugh complimenting Hawaii for their excellent health care service when he was there and had a minor heart attack, and then a week later after he was told that Hawaii has a public option, he ripped it apart on his radio show.
Also said he'd move if the health care bill passed...still hasn't happened </3

Did he honestly rip them apart on his show? I'm a hardcore liberal but I still try to listen to his show every now and then. After he had his hospital stay, I didn't know about Hawaii's health care plan until the Daily Show did a segment on it.

Doesn't surprise me. Today he seemed to be defending BP to the point that considering 60% of BP employees are Americans, Obama is out to eliminate these jobs and that BP stakeholders are worth more than the "little people" affected by the spill on the gulf coast. He truly has a warped view on reality.

And how this make the FairTax a good solution?
takenflight
06/19/10, 09:57 PM
Because a flat tax is the only fair system.
Currently big corporations are allowed loopholes to pay less tax, which over burdens the working class. That is wrong & needs to stop.
Obama and the radical left want to tax the big corporations more. That leads to outsourcing(ie loss of American jobs...I know I work for a fortuen 500 that canceled plans to stop outsourcing customer service aftter the health bill passed), benefit cuts for those lucky enough to keep their jobs and finally lay offs.
None of those things benefit the average worker.
I have just demonstrated how far right & far left policies don't work.
Flat tax makes big corps pay their fair share, which doesn't hurt their bottom line enough for layoffs, and doesn't allow them the loopholes to overburden the average citizen who has to make up the difference for what they don't pay.
If the tax is 30% of 3 million or 30% of $50,000, its 30 percent. You still get more $ out of the 30% of 3 million.
Only a moron would think that far right & far left thinking would be more beenficial to the average citizen than a Moderate flat tax idea....
Please tell me you get it now...

Making factory workers pay the same to taxes as hedge fund managers is not fair at all. The wealth left after that 30% is removed isn't comparable in the least bit.

You do realize that the biggest and most sense-making argument for lowering taxes on corporations so that they stop outsourcing jobs is to increase the payroll taxes on the average worker to make up for the money lost, right? So if we lowered taxes on big corporations so that they stop outsourcing jobs and finding loopholes that allow them to not pay their tax, then the idea is that we should in turn increase the top tax tier (and the rest of the teirs, for that matter)....I, for one, am for this actually. The top tax tier should not only be at 33%. It should be up closer to 50%. That would allow us to give corporations a bit more of a break, allowing for more jobs to be created here at home and in turn increasing tax revue for the government.
The only way a flat tax system is fair is if you're in a truly socialist state and everybody is getting paid the same amount. But to take 30% of a guys 300 dollar pay check and leaving him with a little over 200 dollars, and taking 30% of a guy who made 3,000 that week and leaving him with a little over 2,000, is a HUGE and unfair difference. The only correct and fair tax system in a capitalistic economy is a tiered tax system, plain and simple.
