View Full Version : Crazy Man Alvin Greene - South Carolina Democrat

zachff

I don't know if anyone else has been keeping up with this story, but Alvin Greene is a unemployed former member of the Armed Forces who won the South Carolina Democratic primary with zero fund-raising, advertising or TV exposure. Oh yes, and he's also facing a felony obscenity charge.

Some people think he is a Republican plant while other SC Dem's think he might have a mental impairment.

Either way, the dude is nucking futs.

Looking for pictures of Alvin in the army? Nope -- I'll show you some baby photos.

If it ends up that this guy is a plant (which would be extremely difficult to prove) it has to go down as one of the greatest political coups in a while.

I wonder how he got 60% of the vote if he had no lit, press, ads, or anything. Maybe people just hated the other guy?

He keeps repeating, "60% is not an accident," but it's well within the range of plausible random occurrences. Nevermind that his name was probably higher up on the ballot than his opponent (last name starting with V) and it's been shown that people will often just choose the first name they see. The other guy was just like a normal kind of guy, from what I gather.

As a south carolinian, and as someone generally associated with the left, I cannot believe that this has happened. This is even further bad news for our state which seems to constantly be caught in the cross hairs of misfortune. I am not certain what I believe, but I would not put it past the corrupt (in this state at least) GOP to organize and carry out the Greene campaign as a plant in order to make Jim Demint win. Note that Greene, who had little to say on anything, spouted the political history and experience that Demint had with presumably no reason other than to contrast the two candidates as a veteran of the system (demint) and someone that knows absolutely nothing of it (greene). Jim Demint is even viewed as possibly the MOST conservative member of the senate, so we aren't just talking about a typical republican shutting out a typical democrat. If something isn't done we will be having a far right (seriously, as in, he is FOR the abolishment of Separation of Church and State completely) bigot capsizing a planted GOP robot.

Nonissue. Alvin Greene or Vic Rawl, they were gonna lose regardless.

Not to mention, if he was a Republican plant--the Democrats do this all the time (they just are more subtle) and if he wasn't, it's irrelevant. He was popularly selected. He won't win.

Too bad, I'd have liked to see a Democratic version of Bunning.

Because he's going to win this election by "good old fashion campaigning." He's unemployed, facing criminal charges, and has zero political experience. I don't know how the hell he has any expectations of winning.

I mean, I agree that he has no real expectations of winning, but if he meets the criteria and wants to serve his state, then he should run in my opinion. Unless there was some clear setup (which hasnt been proven or really evidenced yet), he has that right even if he did win the primary by a mistake.

Dunno. Maybe he will get the Sarah Palin effect, and grow a following because he is "folksy." Just like what saysmydoctor said, both candidates really did not have much of a chance in winning, so it's probably best to sit back and relax and watch this disaster.

To the recent people saying why should he drop out -- because something is obviously wrong with him. Is it likely that a Democrat would in the regular election versus the GOP? No, probably not. But this guy has absolutely no shot. The Republican candidate in SC is one of the most conservative conservatives out there, so the Dems could trot out a very centrist candidate and have a decent (albeit still probably less than 50%) chance of beating him.

This guy winning the SC primary is honestly just embarrassing for everyone involved -- even I (IL resident) feel embarrassed as citizen of a country in which people voted for him.

South Carolina has “open primaries, which means voters can choose to vote in either the Republican or Democratic contest.”
To get a new primary, Rawl doesn’t have to prove that voter fraud happened. He just has to lay out a convincing argument.

It sounds like from that Rawl is doing the right thing. The fact that it's an open primary makes it even more likely that this was a ramjob by the Republicans, albeit a great one.

I think most of the people that went out and voted educated themselves on the gubernatorial election with Sheheen and while they were there they voted for Alvin Greene because they liked the way his name sounds better than Vic Rawl. I can understand that the Republicans are gonna be cold hearted fucking assholes about everything.... but when our side, the Democrats(who are supposed to be the good guys) can't even put up a good fight... then it just gets downright pathetic. Our state just sucks.
