Yes, it's true that at the time of the Civil War, blacks favored Republicans because of its efforts towards abolition. Southern Democrats at the time favored states' rights for legal slavery. Even in the early days of the KKK, members were overwhelmingly Democrat. It wasn't until the administrations of Kennedy and Johnson that pushed for civil rights. Ideologies remain the same but the Democratic Party is just a name. The contemporary Democratic Party favors providing more services and legislation in support of minorities. President Obama obtained 95% of the black vote. I don't think the "racist history of the Democratic Party" will automatically make blacks more independent or conservative.

Hmm. They don't mention how far-left Martin Luther King, Jr. was? I don't think many Republicans would appreciate quotes like:
“Don’t let anyone make you think God chose America as His divine messianic force; to be a sort of policeman of the whole world. I can hear God saying to America, ‘You are too arrogant, and if you don’t change your ways, I will rise up and break the backbone of your power and I will place it in the hands of a nation that doesn’t even know my name.’”
“I speak as a citizen of the world, for the world stands aghast at the path we have taken. I speak as an American to the leaders of my own nation: the great initiative in this war is ours; the initiative to stop it must be ours.”
“A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”
Because those are just a bit too commie for me.

Let's just get a few things straight. For one, you felt offended for being called a racist on this board for opposing the policies of a half black/half white president. So obviously, you have an agenda where you want to call out all liberal Democrats on the politics forum. For one, as a liberal myself, I wouldn't call you a racist for simply opposing our president's policies/ideologies. You are certainly entitled to your opinions. So I apologize for the "shakedown" you had to experience. You obviously have a set of views that cannot be defined as Republican or Democrat. But you are trying to compare apples to oranges. The Democratic Party of the past does not represent the Democratic Party of the present. I am a registered Democratic but is open for criticism of the party itself. You come off as trying to seek validation that the two party system is flawed. You are correct but you are using this forum for incorrectly distorting history.

No, moron. Martin Luther King SENIOR was a republican, and then when RFK called Coretta Scott-King when King was in jail, MLK Sr. decided to rally votes for the Democrats, which in turn, swung the election for JFK. In fact, Jackie Robinson was quite critical of King for not supporting the Republicans outright, and while the Kennedy campaign desperately wanted Robinson's vote, most of the powerful African American celebrity activists, people like Mahalia Jackson and Harry Belafonte, were supporting the Democrats. These were the same people King was working with.
The Republicans at the time barely wanted anything to do with King. Both parties were (and in many ways still are) racist. That's why King never identified with either of them. His politics involved voting for whomever was going to do the most good in the fight against segregation regardless of party. That just happened to be Democrats because the party had largely abandoned the idiotic States Right's premise.

This is from the site's FAQs;
As author Michael Scheuer stated, the Democratic Party is the party of the four S's: slavery, secession, segregation and now socialism.
Seems to me like having everyone (of all races) on the same even footing would probably piss off white people more than black people...but, hey, what do I know? I still don't cower in fear when I hear that 4th 's' word.

I did my best to read that whole FAQ. It was a doozy. I'm guessing that this site's authors do not believe that people can change, seeing as they mention Senator Robert Byrd many a times as an example of the typical racist Democrat. Funny they only talk of Strom Thurmond with praise.

we were blasted in many threads for being anti-Obama
I was called a racist even though I never made any racist remarks...I was called racist soley for the fact that I disagreed with the policies of Barack Obama...I was told "just admit that you don't like people of color"
This is funny since I am an avid supporter of Alan Keyes who is 100 % black,lol..unlike Obama who is only partially black
I remember during the election I saw this one thing where a reporter went around asking people who they supported. For the people who answered Obama there were follow-up questions about whether they agreed with his policies and of course they all did, but all of the policies they stated were McCain's. I would like to have seen the results of that election based solely on educated voters and see if Obama still would have won.
I also get the same thing when i say I hate Obama just because, sadly, I'm one of the few among my friends who won't just look skin deep (pun intended).

By educated I mean about the election not in general. I don't care how smart you are just make sure you know who you are voting for dick. And education level doesn't really mean anything. Someone with a PhD from MIT is just as capable of blindly voting as anyone else. I know some pretty dumb people that obsess over politics more than any smart people I know. It's all person to person and I doubt there is any legitimate statistics to back any of this up because of that, plus who would admit to voting for someone who they didn't research.
And I wouldn't be too sure. Who knows how an election in this country would wind up if people actually researched their candidates. We would probably have a government without a single Democrat or Republican just because they are too tied up in party matters instead of actually thinking for themselves or actually representing the areas like they should be.
By the way - I never said McCain would have won if only educated people would vote. I said I would like to see if Obama would still win. There really isn't a way of questioning the results without sounding like I think he would have lost.

Voting for a party is different than voting for a candidate and parties only provide a skeleton of the candidate. Party matters can be achieved any numerous amount of way.
And I don't have a pessimistic view of the American electorate, I have a pessimistic view of the very foundation our government has become to be built on. Career politicians are political parties have destroyed our government. The fact that anytime there is a vote we expect it to go along party lines is a travesty. That means that the people and politicians do not even matter, only the parties do. And the fact that people have to work their way up the political ladder only makes it worse. To advance you need to align yourself with the existing power which takes out any real substance. Only the biggest ass-kissers make it to the top and that is something that really needs to change. I see the American electorate as a result of this and I really feel bad and truly want to become a politician to change this, but I would never get anywhere because of the nature of the system.
There is a reason George Washington warned us of the dangers of the political party.
By educated I mean about the election not in general. I don't care how smart you are just make sure you know who you are voting for dick.
Oh, you were just pulling something out of your ass based solely on a Howard Stern show segment and applying it to the electorate at large. My mistake.
Democrats have won the popular vote in 4 out of the last 5 general elections, routinely getting upwards of 90% of the black vote in the process, regardless of nominee. To believe that Obama winning the black vote(who make up 13% of the electorate) by 5 percentage points more than Al Gore did could reverse a 10 million vote gap in the popular margin is comical if you spent two seconds looking at the numbers. You could hand McCain an additional 8 million votes(which is half of all the black votes cast in the election) for no reason at all and the popular vote margin would still be roughly as wide as it had been in any of the preceeding three elections.

Not only did you insinuate it, you insinuated it on the basis of a Howard Stern show clip you saw where they interviewed a handful of people in Harlem. Solely? Am I to assume that if I perused the parking lot of your college's campus, I would find plenty of vehicles adorned with bumperstickers from the Keyes campaign of 2000?
If the mere idea of a black President was enough to propel a candidate even half as far as Obama got, we would have seen breakthroughs well before 2008.

Voting for a party is different than voting for a candidate and parties only provide a skeleton of the candidate. Party matters can be achieved any numerous amount of way.
Of course, but there are people people who vote for the Democrats or Republicans largely because they believe that party members are conducting so-called party matters in a good way. for example, just look at all the debate within the Democratic Party in 2004/2006 about the viability of the 50 state plan. Elected officials were defeated in primaries partially because of their stance on this issue, even though it's basically a matter of party procedure instead of policy.
And I don't have a pessimistic view of the American electorate, I have a pessimistic view of the very foundation our government has become to be built on. Career politicians are political parties have destroyed our government.
What is the alternative?
I can't think of a democratic system in the world today that lacks political parties. I think corporate interests have done a lot more to destroy the government than career politicians, but the problems you're talking about are inherent in American-style democracy. Get rid of it for a parliamentary system and we'll talk.
The fact that anytime there is a vote we expect it to go along party lines is a travesty. That means that the people and politicians do not even matter, only the parties do. And the fact that people have to work their way up the political ladder only makes it worse. To advance you need to align yourself with the existing power which takes out any real substance. This happens in basically any political system though. I'm not sure why you think it's unique for political parties. I'm just saying you seem rather pessimistic when you're saying people don't vote for policies, they vote for people. People largely do both, this is why you can see people from both sides criticizing their leaders for not advocating specific policies.
There is a reason George Washington warned us of the dangers of the political party.
Who cares? Washington's analysis of politics is largely obsolete, plus the Constitution's first amendment almost necessitates political parties.

People act like the elections are decided by the voters.
Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, who are running for president as economic populists, are benefiting handsomely from Wall Street donations, easily surpassing Republican John McCain in campaign contributions from the troubled financial services sector.
It is part of a broader fundraising shift toward Democrats, compared to past campaigns when Republicans were the favorites of Wall Street.

Thanks for finally acknowledging my point and finally understanding that I just don't like what he stands for and don't think that his course of action is going to lead to a more prosperous economy. His desires to tax corportae American to death will only lead to job loss, outsouring & benefit cuts for those lucky enough to keep their jobs. He will need those same big corporations to invest in our economic growth and they won't have the funds to do it. Then he will have no choice but to write checks we can't cash, plunging us further into debt....
But wasn't it you that said "just admit it you don't like people of color", when I said I didn't like his policies and that I did not disagree with the Arizona immigration polciy?
Maybe you were in a bad mood?

Perhaps I wanted to get to the root of the debate. Regarding the Arizona situation, opponents use "illegal immigration status" as a way to label specific people as criminals. I try not to generalize, but Canadian and white European illegal immigrants tend to get a free pass. When it comes to illegal status, it all comes down to simple paper work. If a foreigner wants to live and work in this country, the federal government should be able to provide those who want to be here the proper and efficient resources to become a legal citizen. I certainly do no mind if one day, 60 percent of American citizens are of Hispanic decent, since considering birth rates, that will happen in a few decades. Do you mind?

Can you show me where Obama desires to "tax corporate america to death" considering he uses the same basic economic principles as the Bush administration?
Please. I'd love to see this analysis. It'd be awesome if he was, since it should be done.

That shit works both ways dude. Yeah, there were uneducated Obama supporters. And there were uneducated McCain supporters. Don't act like it's a one way street.
