I'll be conducting an interview with Rich from the band Madison (http://www.myspace.com/madisonnj). He's open to addressing his feelings and own side of the band's break-up and the split from Drive-Thru Records. If you have any questions for Rich leave them in the replies.

I was under the impression that Madison has has a relationship with DTR long before they were even signed, mostly through being from the same area and/or being friends with members of some of the DTR bands. Do you think that this helped or hurt your band in the long run?

Way to get the member of Madison that was the most up DTR's ass for an interview.
If a band member e-mails and requests us to listen to his own personal feeling about his band and the relationship they had with their label, we're going to let him speak his side. We've heard a band statement, we've heard drive thru's statement, so why can't the 1 member who disagreed with both statements in the situation not be allowed to give his?

this interview will sjut cause more drama. just drop it already, obviously each side's story will be bias, so just drop it.

guy's vagina is just sore because he came to realization that he has no talent besides drumming (sort of), no education (or ability to think) and his band just burned bridges with a label that he (for some reason) has much respect for
this will just cause more uneeded drama to a dumb situation by including the opinion (untruths) of someone who can't really come to his own conclusions about anything

If you take an interpersonal communications class, you'll know that in every single situation, no matter what it is, everyone will have their own viewpoint of the situation going on.
Ex: if two people walk down a street, each would have their own bias about the walk, no matter how plain/dull the walk was, because each person sees and percieves everything differently than the next person does.

A) Will you guys ever play a reunion show in the future say at maybe bamboozle next year? I loved you guys from the beginning when I saw you at Skate and Surf Fest.
B) Will the demos ever be make public I remember watching the song about a princess at Bamboozle and thinking these guys are going to get huge?
C) Besides Drive Thru/Rushmore were you in any talks with other labels about being signed?
D) I had heard a rumor that you guys might come back under a different name but mainly the same memebers, Any truth to this?
E) The songs that were demoed does Drive Thru own these or could you use them in future bands or what not?
F) If any of you make a new band do you still have to be on Drive Thru or what not?
G) Were you guys making the best possible demos you could or were you making bad ones to try to get released from Drive Thru?
H) You know how bands like The Mile After and The Track Record are not on rushmore anymore ? How did they get away and how could you guys not do the same thing?
I) Do you know what happened to every band (The true stories) that have left drive thru ie midtown, senses fail, stuff liek that?

i like how you say, his side of the story. he has no side. hes an alcoholic who didnt know what the fuck was going on anytime of day. i remember him drinking everyday for a straight year. im sure he has a real fuckin story to tell. richie didnt even know his band was breaking up till 3 days before it actually happened. and he doesnt know why it happened? but im gunna say, part of it was his fault. i dont give a shit what people think of me, im here defending the band and some of my best friends.
richie would tell people how poorly they treated him. and get a guilt trip from everyone and anyone who would listen, including DTR. hes going to defend dtr, cuz hes a whipped lil bitch whos walked on richards back many a time(ive witnessed it).
also he will talk about how he had no creative control in the writing process. guy listens to yellowcard and story of the year(so he knows nothing). he had one drum part, and used it on every song. listen to every madison song, and tell me im wrong. so i wonder why they didnt like writing with him. towards the end they were programming drums so it would be a different part. IT WAS ALL THE SAME!!!!!
hes causing drama cuz hes a washed up 21 year old scene has been. GUY NO ONE CARES ANYMORE! GET OVER IT! AND GET OVER YOURSELF!
dont talk to people how ur life fucking sucks, and u do nothing all day and how no one loves you and other bullshit like that! GET A JOB AND GET A LIFE!
so pleaseeeeeeeeeeee dont use this interview as a fuckin leverage point to tell people your now a studio drummer. you did one cd other then madison. that was 3 years ago. you didnt get paid! and your name was so tiny on the cd booklet, i needed a magnifying glass to read it!
you didnt know shit that was happening to madison. as a matter of fact you didnt know that they wanted to kick you out for 2 or so years, or the fact that they all had hatred for you, and all wanted u to quit!

Ok, I gotta a story and a question.
First of all, this is Alex from The Sophomore Year (ex-Scarlet Undercover). When I was in Scarlet Undercover we played with Madison twice. Once in their home town in New Jersey ( Some building they rented out for a show) and once in our home state in Wilmington,NC (The Soapbox).
Story: New Jersey was part of our first tour and I had an apple ibook that I took on tour with all of the mapquest directions to the shows on. When we got to NJ my ibook was out of battery and I had to recharge it. So I put it in a corner ,charging underneath my book bag (which was suppose to be a backstage area). We play, we hang out. I go to check on my laptop and it was gone but my bookbag was still there. I realize that this was mostly my fault but suspicions arose. I will say thanks to Madison for asking on stage to punch anybody that had a white apple ibook. But I also noticed that Madison had one like mine on stage... so they might of thought itd be a good idea for a backup. Im not blaming them. I dont have 100% proof.
Wilmington was just a one off show that we played with Madison as part of a Rushmore tour. I had a bag filled with pedals (voodoo labs power supply, a vintage rat distortion pedal, and a line 6 delay modeler pedal) stolen from that show. I thought that one of the bands might have mistaken it for their shit but then again I didnt know. So I ended up searching a couple of trailers ( The Mile After, A Day at the Fair) but I did not find my shit. But when I asked madison to search their trailer they wouldnt let us. I understand they were done packing everything up but this is 500 dollars worth of goods. You would try to look too. But in the end they wouldnt let us look.
These are the only 2 shows that Ive EVER had stuff stolen from at a gig. Also the only 2 times I've EVER played with madison. Big Coincidence? Maybe. Do I think they stole my stuff? Maybe.
Question: Did anybody from Madison take these things?
I wont be mad... its been so long.
If you have the stuff. Great! Ill give you the address to send it to.
Thanks
Alex

The singer of my band went on tour with madison a few years back, and i met this guy first hand, so i know from experience that what that guy is saying about him is true. He is a real asshole, and even said "he was the first person to wear girl pants." But I digress. Here is my question....
When you guys started being a band, did you openly want to be just like SF because they were your friends? Or because you thought they were a good band, because that would have been a shame.
Its sad really that you had to emulate a band that was already so horrible. You guys were so lucky to have gotten as big as you did. You are the local band from Anytown USA that the people who grew out of that scene when they were 15 make fun of because you are 21, 22, 23 still doing the same played out music.

Ask how come every other band on the label who wanted out of their contracts got out with no issues, yet madison just happened to have all this drama just to get off the label?
Also ask if Madison would have broken up on any label or if he thinks it was just dtr that caused the break up? I ask this because day at the fair claims they had memebers who didn't want to make music their life and thats why they quit, so maybe madison felt the same way.
Finally find out about this walking on the back thing and if it's as perverted as the rumors kids are spreading make the story out to be.

sweet fuck i love this website and how crazy it gets.
i've worked with a promotions/booking agency in houston for quite a while before working at the largest all ages venue in houston, and throughout my time with both - i've met a lot of people to have some insight into things like this.
i don't really know where to begin, but i like DTR, and I liked madison. it's a shame to see how business and friendships don't always mix the best way - and it's also a shame to see so many people bash for no apparent reason without all the facts being presented by either side. then again, what's the fun in bitching about stuff on this site if you've got all the people involved telling you what they think BEFORE you have a chance to bitch about it. that's what i love about this site - opinions fly around like crazy.
about the backwalking thing...i've met richard before. he's not as old as a lot of people think, so i don't understand why people look at it as though he's some older man trying to molest some adolescents. he's not, and the backwalking thing i'm pretty sure is just a joke. the way i look at it is like, he's the co-owner of a record label...and maybe that was a joke to see how many people would do something lke that - solely because the co-owner of a record label asked them to. secondly, he's not the only authority for that record label...his sister does a fair share of the work as well - hence the title, CO-OWNER. it's not like you would have to walk on his back to get signed.
for example: after doing sound for a drivethru band (who's name i'm keeping to myself because it's rude to share someone's word without asking them), i was asking them about how they got signed, and all the questions of that type. i brought up the backwalking (because i've done it myself, i thought it was hilarious), which was responded to with: "no, when he asked me, i was like - what the fuck? no. and he never brought it up again." they've been on the label for quite a while, and they love doing what they do, and being a part of dtr. so for anyone who's spitting out something like "you have to do it to get signed" - no, you obviously don't
but with all that being said, i'm pumped to be seeing rich's side of the story, because it's obviously going to either take side with madison, dtr, or go completely on his own. all i'm asking is that you make it a good interview, and not something just to fuel more bullshit drama.
oh, and for the person who was curious about this - here's an answer.
I) Do you know what happened to every band (The true stories) that have left drive thru ie midtown, senses fail, stuff liek that?
senses fail, midtown, the starting line, new found glory, something corporate were some of the bands who drive-thru lost due to MCA Records being pwnd by Geffen. the contractual obligation between MCA as drive-thru's affiliate, plus the relationship between MCA and Geffen stated that until 2004, drivethru could not make any adjustments to their roster, and they were allowed to take whoever they wanted from the label once that contract ran out. some of these bands were uplifted to larger labels with more publicity/less independence, and others were placed on different labels completely. senses fail was picked up by geffen and placed on vagrant bc some percentage of vagrant is owened by geffen. last time i talked to anyone about it, it was 43%. you can check some of this stuff out by using that pretty fucking nifty site called wikipedia.

All this talk is just adding to the rumors. Now we have people thinking that they're filthy, stealing pigs and martyrs battling against the big, bad label all at the same time. I think I am going to refrain from reading Madison gossip until the actual interview goes up. Half of the people on here think anything they do involving the music industry gives them the upperhand ruling and opinions in the matter.

well, everyone is entitled to an opinion regardless of things they are or are not involved with, and i understand mine may not be that important to anyone, so i'm not worried about getting criticism for it. not that it's what your post was doing, but yeah. and i agree with you about how a lot of people think that they have upperhand ruling, rumor fueling posts, etc. so yeah...just pumped to see how this interview turns out because i'm surprised the whole issue's drawing as much attention as it has been.
What do you see for the future of Socratic?
I've really been wondering what Drive-Thru is doing for them, if anything...

idk what to predict with socratic, but i really like their stuff. i know they just came out with a video for one of their songs and they let people vote on their myspace page as to which they should make a video for. i can't remember which one it is...but yeah, i'm hoping their stuff gets pushed a lot more, or people start pushing it on behalf of them. their piano parts remind me a lot of bob seger kind of piano..
Get ready for the next BIG ONE folks. Rumor has it that another BIG DTR band is about to break up because of lack of suffort from the label. This is a BIG ONE!!!!!
Ok here's a little hint. You can't see them but they're there.
