i'd weigh in but i don't know enough about it. i'd love to see some of your sources, though, to get educated.
I don't know if the Russian people ever truely had a taste of democracy. The Russian people are used to conservative leaders such as Putin who currently has a 75% approval rating. I don't believe Putin thinks much of western ideals, last year Russia uped the price of oil being imported to Ukraine by 400% because they felt that the Ukraine was becoming comfortable with the west (although they deny that being the reason).
This article maybe some help. http://www.time.com/time/europe/magazine/article/0,13005,901060710-1209926,00.html
Like you said they are nationalizing key industries, most importantly being Gazprom Oil (it was nationalized under the Soviets then privatized after the fall of communism but now is becoming more state controlled) which may explain the 6% GDP growth.
I think that maybe their economy will become more like that of Chinas, which is kind of a socialist market.
