In a word: YES. The Pixies are fucking seminal. If you liked alternative music at all, you really have to give props to the Pixies.

Ok, because it seems that this board is low on Pixies awareness, I will try to help out. They were basically one of the most influential rock bands of the late-80s/early-90s. Kurt Cobain admitted dozens of times that he was trying bite their sound. They wrote hummable songs about sadistic shit, crazy band. Here are some of their classic songs:

Here Comes Your Man
...oh fuck it, everything from Doolittle and Surfer Rosa is essential. Listen to the Pixies damnit!

I haven't heard that version, but the Promise Ring does a horrible cover it. They make it so bland. But that's what they do best.
