K, just watched the trailer and I agree that Dicaprio is proving himself to be one of the best actors around. This looks great and I've gotta say that Djimon Hounsou does not get enough play. The guy knows what he's doing.

I think it's a maybe, definitely same subject, but whether it's based on the book I doubt it now.

I'm going to give it a B-. It was great when it was just DiCaprio/Hounsou working off each other or working their individual plots - throw in Jennifer Connelly and the movie just died. I fell asleep during one of DiCaprio and her's "falling in love" scenes. Also, I laughed at a part of the ending. It was long by 30 minutes or so and the movie would have been better by developing a new journalist connection to London that wasn't a requisite love interest and streamline the movie. If it was in fact shorter and had subtracted the terrible "love story," I likely would have agreed with you about this great, but deeply flawed movie.
