So yea, I was just on the he is legend myspace, and theres a bunch of people saying that they lost their faith and whatnot. I myself am not a christain or a religious person, I just like them because their music kicks ass, but out of the sake of curiosity...does anyone know whats up with that?

the faith of the individual members are between them and god. however i'm leaning on the idea that at least a few members are christians but they don't want the label of being a christian band because it boxes them in to a certain market and turns other people off.

while we're on the topic of HIL. i am hollywood (entire CD) > suck out the poison (in my opinion). i'm not really digging schuylar's new vocals.

“And what does the saint do in the woods?” asked Zarathustra. The saint answered: “I make songs and sing them, and when I make songs I laugh, weep and growl: thus I praise God.
With singing, weeping, laughing and growling I praise the god who is my god. But tell me, what do you bring us as a gift?”
When Zarathustra had heard these words he took his leave of the saint and spoke: “What would I have to give you! But let me leave quickly before I take something from you!” – And so they parted, the oldster and the man, laughing like two boys laugh.
But when Zarathustra was alone he spoke thus to his heart: “Could it be possible! This old saint in his woods has not yet heard the news that God is dead!”

I like the vocals a lot because its what his real voice sounds like live. That and it would sound weird to have clean vocals over the dirty sound of the songs.

But they are on a Christian Label.
I'm guessing they used a few of the members Christianity to gain a Christian label, despite not being a christian band. That's just speculation though.
I hate the whole idea of "Christian" bands. I think claiming to be a Christian band automatically gives you a decent sized fan base of kids who like only Christian music, but they seem to like EVERY Christian band. I think it's using the Lord's name to prosper and succeed and it strikes me as blasphemous.

There's an awesome quote in the HIL interview on this site.

Although this has been asked many times...are you guys a christian band?

Schuyler: This has been asked every interview. It's alright though. We are not a christian band.

Steve: I would say that about a third of my drum beats are christian drum beats.

Schuyler: I think most of the riffs on the record are christian riffs.

Steve: I have that one jewish fill that I'm pretty proud of.

While Im not real impressed with the clean vocals on 'Suck Out the Poison', I must admit that the album as a whole us much better than 'I Am Hollywood'

They took a bigger step towards southern rock, and I think this is what the band does and should sound like. Heavy, constructed, and with massive breakdowns.

This album is much more inspired than 'I Am Hollywood'
... though I am a huge fan of both.

"Also just because He Is Legend is on a decidedly CHristian label, SOlid State, that doesn't mean the band goes to church regularly. "you can't lump five dudes with five different lives into that category. We're too dumb to stand for anything. We just want to write music that rules, dance and get paid for it. It's the American Dream, and we're living it." - Alternative Press article.

im not really digging this band as human beings, let alone "recording artists". hooray for genericism and lack of talent, it makes shit bands household names these days.

Or just save your money and don't buy either, because neither are any good.

Honestly, not a big fan of the new NFG record, but I'd buy that before any HIL or Maylene record.
