The first "review" of Brand New (http://www.absolutepunk.net/brandnew)'s new album has been posted on Billboard.com (http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id= 1003223808).

I'm excited.
Review copies are going around, but if I were Brand New and their management there will be more than the usual policing of leaks for this...
Marchand, if you have heard 'yeah' live, you would understand.
But it goes to say that Billboard doesn't choose their words well.
It just means the sudden turn to all out Lacey screaming.

Hence the "quotes" - it's a literal review of the material on the disc.

here's something i posted in the staff forum:
so my goal is to hold out on hearing the new album until the day it's actually released, in stores, and on shelves. i haven't had the feeling of being so excited for an album, literally running to and in the store and back to the car, then feverishly ripping off the shrink wrap in quite some time. actually, the last time i believe was with deja entendu. anway, the point is, i'd like to have that feeling again. what would be more appropriate than having it with new brand new? exactly. the point is, i'm asking all of you to NOT send me this album no matter what. i don't care if i plea, beg and cry -- just ignore me or do whatever it takes to get it through my thick skull that i'm not allowed to hear it until november 21st. hopefully this doesn't leak until a week before, then i'll have no problem holding out. i'm counting on you guys to help me here, seeing as i lack anything resembling self-control.
with that being said, this is going to take A LOT of will power, self-control and so forth. but i know i can do it, and the feeling of accomplishing such a task and then just the overall excitement for the record itself, will be beyond well-worth it.

idk if i should read the reviews or not. i cant decide if i wanna be surprised the day it comes out or not. hmmmm

Hardcore attack mode, haha sounds like something I would write.
I don't see how an instrumenta track is "weird" for Brand New. I haven't seen them live in a long time, but back around 2002 or 2003, whenever they were at the tail end of touring on Your Favorite Weapon, tons of songs had elongated instrumental part at many points in songs. Now I know that 99% of their current fanbas didn't know they existed back then, but this really isn't a big shock.

Misery and love meet on "Limousine," where the sweet plucks on an acoustic guitar are offset by the miasma of creepy sounds in the background. "I can dish it out/but I can't take it," Lacey admits, "I love you so much/but do me a favor, baby/don't reply."
"I love you so much/it hurts my head" Possibly??

I want the final product, and I will not be in any forum chats about the CD until after it's in stores. I don't want to hear people's thoughts/comments/bitching ... I want to make my own mind up and experience the music.

Call me an elitist, but I sure hope they lose a lot of their female "Jesse is so hawt omg" fans because of this album, and in turn gain more credible ones that focus on the music.

The lyrics that billboard quoted in the article don't really excite me too much, nothing special. Then again, It's only when Jesse Lacey's lyrics are presented with the music that they really have their full effect, so to speak. Therefore, the jury is still out until the album is released and presented to me in its entirety.

but what the hell do i know?
that was a lame excuse for a review... but i still don't care. november 21st can't come soon enough.
...halting abruptly for the scary and lonesome "Luca," a tale of sending one's lover to the bottom of the sea.

So which song is the best, Tate?
1. "Sowing Season (Yeah)"
2. "Millstone"
3. "Jesus Christ"
4. "Degausser"
5. "Limousine"
6. "You Won't Know"
7. "Welcome to Bangkok" (Instrumental)
8. "Not the Sun"
9. "Luca"
10. "Untitled"
11. "Archers"
12. "Handcuffs"
...and I find it ironic that one of the songs is titled "Untitled."

didn't you say you'd tell us which of the songs are demos?
Right now I've been led to believe that only "Sowing Season (Yeah/demo 8)" and "You Won't Know (demo 6)" made the final cut.
Also...interesting that "Luca" is about a lover at the bottom of the ocean. In the press release they mentioned the new songs that they had played live and "Luca" was not one of them. And in the street team interview Jesse talked about how much he loved "me and Vin's double guitar wig-out on 'You Won't Know,'" which is characteristic of the supposed "You Won't Know" that's been played live.
and what happened to Take Apart Your Head? is that the Beer 2 track?

I dont have a preference.
I will say I havnt bought an cd from a store in over 2 years and I get the majority of my music online.
If I buy a cd its from the bands show, because they are given a portion of that money for food and expenses.
Albums bought in stores help the bands label get sales and very seldomly does a band even get 50% of that sale.
(this is my opinion, I dont judge you so I ask that you dont judge me.)

here's something i posted in the staff forum:
so my goal is to hold out on hearing the new album until the day it's actually released, in stores, and on shelves. i haven't had the feeling of being so excited for an album, literally running to and in the store and back to the car, then feverishly ripping off the shrink wrap in quite some time. actually, the last time i believe was with deja entendu. anway, the point is, i'd like to have that feeling again. what would be more appropriate than having it with new brand new? exactly. the point is, i'm asking all of you to NOT send me this album no matter what. i don't care if i plea, beg and cry -- just ignore me or do whatever it takes to get it through my thick skull that i'm not allowed to hear it until november 21st. hopefully this doesn't leak until a week before, then i'll have no problem holding out. i'm counting on you guys to help me here, seeing as i lack anything resembling self-control.
with that being said, this is going to take A LOT of will power, self-control and so forth. but i know i can do it, and the feeling of accomplishing such a task and then just the overall excitement for the record itself, will be beyond well-worth it.
i'm with you..i've never done that w/ a cd before but i've never been this excited for a cd before either..that review just made me 10x more anxious for this

yeah well if it leaks soon, i'm not sure if i can hold out until nov21...i was ok with deja entendu since i didn't even know it leaked til the day before it came out so that was no problem. hmm still deciding what to do though

Nice to know that there are other websites/sources keeping tabs on Brand New. I'm still pretty stoked; being a longtime fan, I'm curious/excited to see where their sound goes.

this has been my most anticipated release for a ridiculously long time now.

You missed the joke. It's from an MC Lars song ... the bands share the same manager.
yeah... not that i didn't get the mc lars line...but, uh, most of us regular folk aren't aware of who manages what bands

Archers sounds like its track 4....
track 4 sounded like it wouldve been the single-type song from the demos.

yeah, i thought archers sounded like track 4 too. with the dirty bass and a big chorus. either that or not the sun, but i'm pretty sure untitled 4 ended with them singing in kind of a round. that was the best demo too.
i think untitled is untitled 1, since they said it is the only short track.

"yeah" was one of the demos.

I'm sure the album will be fine.
You can't go into albums with high expectations...Expectations are almost always higher than results.
All and all it is art. They create their art. We are just bystandards of it.

so fucking excited about this. and seeing them this weekend. ahhhhhhhhh!
They don't like the internet. I refuse to download any "leak" though .. I will only listen to this when I can be alone with the lyrics and the album. I want the final product, and I will not be in any forum chats about the CD until after it's in stores. I don't want to hear people's thoughts/comments/bitching ... I want to make my own mind up and experience the music.
So you didn't get those Brand New demos then? Because I've heard otherwise.
Either way, it's not exactly a fair comparison because you get advances, usually well ahead of release. Most people on the street don't get CDs until release date unless they pirate. Me? I'll download it early, burn it and then buy it on the 20th like everyone else, but I'm a shameless fanboy.
Edit: I'd also like to point out that I thoroughly expect everyone to be underwhelmed when it's released, people saying it's crap because it's different and because the hype has built up to such a level that merely a good album would not be enough.
