After nearly three years of studio inactivity, The Offspring (http://offspring.com/) has begun working with legendary producer Bob Rock (http://ultimate-guitar.com/news/upcoming_releases/the_offspring_work_with_bob_rock.ht ml) (Mötley Crüe, Metallica, Bon Jovi, Skid Row) on their eighth full-length studio album, according to Monstersandcritics.com (http://music.monstersandcritics.com/news/article_1203220.php/Bob_Rock_devoting_energies_to_other _artists_following_split_from_Metal lica). He said: "I'm working with [vocalist/guitarist] Dexter [Holland] and helping him sort out songs."
As previously reported (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/upcoming_releases/the_offspring_demo_new_album.html), Holland recently stated that the band had begun demoing the songs for the new album. He said: "We're finally demo-ing new songs. Yep. Maybe it seems like nothing has been going on with us but we've actually been really busy writing. We didn't want to rush into the studio just to record demos for the sake of doing something, so we've really taken our time getting the songs together first. Like, making sure the songs kick ass before we even try it in the studio."

They need more punk-influenced songs (such as The Noose), as compared to the slower songs (Worst Hangover Ever).
Even better, they could go and record something as strong as Smash! (Yea, right).

After seeing them on warped, I am confident that a great album is still plausible.

As much as their later releases disappointed, I still have hope that these guys can put out another really solid album... I can forgive them for their mistakes because they have given me some of my favourite albums of the past...
Fingers crossed for a good Offspring release

I'm not going to be one to write them off quite yet. The Offspring was one of the first bands that got me into punk rock and music this site talks about in the first place with Smash. Personally, I love just about every song they've ever recorded, and while Splinter wasn't a glorious record, it was good.
I'm not sure about working with Bob Rock, but it may help beef up their sound a little. This band is talented, and writes songs that kick ass, plus after seeing them on Warped a few years ago, I know they have what it takes. They're still a terrific band, and people just write them off too quickly because they've written too many "novelty" singles, and have a similar sound on all their records. Give 'em time...this is their final chance at making a classic.

The only think Bob Rock is legendary for is ruining bands albums (Metallica, Our Lady Peace) with horrible production and for trying endlessly to join these bands. you could tell ol' Bobby got a boner playing on the Metallica album, he thought he was gonna join them. God he sucks

That was really original and witty. I bet you're proud of that one.
