A band that plays it's own instruments shouldn't have other people writing their songs.
Don't talk shit.
A lot of bands have help...Misfits, Bowling For Soup just to name a few. Isn't that also the producers job to help flesh out a lot of the songs?

What does a reading a website have to do with being a n00b? If you're clueless, you're clueless...
Who cares who writes the songs? If an album is good, it just is...

this is huge for them - so stoked to see them getting bigger tours. They credit the people that helped them write songs - whats wrong with that? Lots of bands have people sit in and help them write, like previously named. Not like they're trying to hide anything. This band rules and I'm waiting to see them blow up

yknow, ELVIS never wrote ANY music in his career. Led zeppelin covered lots of old blues tunes. eric clapton did the same and even had an album called "me and mr johnson" which referred to robert johnson, a legendary blues artist from the early 1900's.
so... i'd just back off for a sec and think about the above statement for a mement. think about what it might be like if elvis never became a star. music as we know it probably wouldnt exist.

Their truth was only partially accurate.
Here, lemme use an example that you'll understand: P!ATD got help from Pete Wentz on their album.
If you are gunna shit talk a band, have ACCURATE shit. Until then, die.

It's not shit talking when it's the truth.
Pete wrote some lyrics for Panic, some got used, others didn't. But their entire cd wasn't co-written.
You're 16 so I'll chalk up your comebacks to immaturity but once you grow up and mature, you'll realize that telling someone to die isn't really an effective way to argue, therefore you lose this one. Sorry bud.

I don't get what the big deal is... isn't it supposed to be about the MUSIC? You are just getting caught up in what is "scene" and the process behind the songs... if you don't like the songs, then don't listen to the band. If you are bitching about co-writes, you are not in it for the MUSIC, but for the politics/"coolness" of the scene and you need to re-evaluate whether or not you truly love MUSIC.

I think cowriting is pretty lame BUT martin was writing better songs at 16 than most of the songs that ended up being on the BLG album. What sells is not the same as what is artistically good most of the time and I'd care a lot more that the BLG album was cowritten if I didn't know for a fact that they are capable of writing truly good songs on their own.

Oh, clever. Cowriting goes on all the time. Some people need a little help tweeking things and they a seek an outsiders' perspective. How dare they make the lyrics better for your enjoyment?

Didn't Max Bemis get help writing the lyrics for "...Is A Real Boy?" There's nothing wrong with help... it doesn't necessarily mean they wrote if for you. Just because your good at writing music and playing an instrument doesn't mean you will automatically be able to get your thoughts down on paper exactly how you'd like to. I don't know what happened in this case, but if they had someone write the lyrics FOR them, not helping them, that's where I'd draw the line. But help is definitley not a bad thing.

I think it's pathetic that these ignorant people are saying things like "i love bands that can't write their own songs". These comments are completely ridiculous. None of these people have been in bands, or recorded in studios, or even have a single clue as to how the music industry works. Everyone from producers to auxillary violin players get due credit on albums. Of course this guy had help writing songs, what bands do you listen too? I'll break your heart and let you know who is writing what. I bet some of your biggest heroes had help writing their hits. For the dudes or dudettes that are making these absurd comments, i challenge you to start a band and get into a studio w/a real producer, go through record contracts, deal w/distribution rights, and then talk to me at the end of the day about who helped who and who relied on who.
