the band modest mouse does not exist to make good or appealing music, their purpose is not even music production. the band started for the same reason that many literary movments, comedy troupes, religious cults, and etc form. if your delivery or product fucking sucks than you form a manifesto that will allow the gullible ass fans see and appreciate your intent rather than what they should actually like-the art of it.
modest mouse has been trying to convince its fans for years that "no one gets it." finally when you anti-trend followers (which is a trend within itself) abandoned whatever you were into before, yall caught on to their scheme. since then theyve been filling their albums with shitty artwork, lyrics, photography pretty much anything they can do to appease their following. you love the fact that the lead singer is an agnostic or whatever however you fail to realize that he is using the same technique on you that you critisize religion for using on the masses
lets be honest you dont like their music (they dont even like their music), yall just like the look yall get from a girl with low self esteem when you tell her "yaw i like modest mouse, omg you havent heard of them i'll make you a mix!"
enough ad hominen, however. the members of modest mouse are artists, although that doesnt say much. i guess they were/are original to some extent but now they serve as an archetype for many potentially good musicians who are buying in to their unproducitve bullshit. music is being corrupted. bands like franz ferdinand, the killers, the____, the____, the_____, the____, the____, and the mars volta are forming at an unparalled rate. ariel from the hippos, spoon, omar and cedric from at the drive in, and many others are becoming shittier everyday because of this trend.
look i know mysteriousness via bad music has gotten you a girl friend, status, and an identity in college, but please think ahead do we really want our music sounding like this in the years to come?
