When finch released there second album the recieved a lot of negative response. The only conclusion I could come up with as to why people weren't as into 'Say Hello to Sunshine' as their first album was - they didn't make another 'What it is to burn.' I don't see what they did 'wrong.' A lot of bands these days are going for a wierd sound, granted Nates vocals were sometimes on the manson side, I think the album had great musicianship and terrific songwriting. If people would've focused on the entire debut album they could've seen that finch wasn't a band that wrote songs like what it is to burn all the time. I'd love to hear what other people think of the band and why people dont like it. If you are one of those that 'don't like finch' please tell me why.

i liked say hello to sunshine...i liked that they changed...because that screamo genre or whatever you wanna call it...it pretty much sounds the same..pretty much hawthorne heights ruined "screamo". i did like what it is to burn. i think track 9 of that cd gave us a preview of what SHTS was going to sound like...im sure some "scene" kid will bust my balls for not knowing the name of track 9. i can't think of the name. sucks they went on "hiatus" looking forward to what the other projects that the members of finch are up to.

The change was a good thing, if they went out with another What It Is To Burn they would have crashed hard. I'm glad they grew up and Say Hello is a great cd.

i doubt they would have crashed hard, I'm sure they would've been huge. I'm glad they didn't make a WiitB II, because SHTS is by far one of the best records released. But hey, I could go on forever about SHTS. People didn't like finch because most people don't want to have to look too deep into their music to appreciate it. I for one like depth in my music.

the second album had songs that i liked more than any others on the first but it had less songs i like in general. overall i feel every song on the first album was good whereas the second album had better songs but also had songs that i didnt like at all. i loved their cover of "dumb" and "mad world", it showed another side to them. still i think "project mayhem" is my fave song as cliche as that is

i enjoy both albums as if they are made by different bands. WIITB and SHTS are great records in anyway at least for me. i think i doesnt matter what others think of the album as long as you like it.

though,,, the thing that really pissed me off is that people actually went up to the guys in finch and told them that SHTS sucked or something like that. the taste in music really depends on themselves and just because you dont like it doesnt mean that it really SUCKED. there were many people who LOVED the album. i think finch broke up because they couldnt help listnening to negative comments about the album and stuff.

oh well, maybe people were into finch too much that they couldnt help it but to say it SUCKED :S

Say Hello To Sunshine was an awesome album. Underrated IMO...

I am one of those people who used to like finch when they were still together. If you go back to when they first started, back to the Falling Into Place EP, which then made What It Is To Burn with a few of those songs people loved off of that EP, you would understand why Say Hello To Sun Shine was such a big deal. It was a complete one-eighty in the wrong direction. Everyone wanted the exciting riffs, and incredibly poppy choruses they seemed to have in every song . Say hello to sun shine lacked melodies, poppy choruses, and maybe even verses in general. The Casket of Roddrick Usher is a prime example of how listening to SHTS is such a big shift. I would listen to WIITB and then listen to SHTS and not undestand I was listening to the same band. After they released SHTS, I was over it.

The Casket of Roddrick Usher makes me go nuts. In a good way. SHTS is fucking awesome. So is WIITB. It really depends on what mood I'm in. If I'm feeling nostalgic I'll pop in What It Is To Burn.

I remember playing 'What It Is To Burn' for the school talent show and having all the ladies scream at us on stage. Then I remember us playing Atreyu's 'Lip Gloss and Black' and felt the impression that I was a fucking idiot.

what it is to burn was amazing, i guess i really never gave shts a chance, i loved pappas and when he left i lost faith in finch. but i'll probably revisit the cd tonight.

maybe pappas is a good guy, but he's a mediocre drummer at best.

ok now im sure you are all going to dissagree with me on this one.

i loved what it is to burn

but as a far as shts, to me his vocals sounded like early incubus and i was never able to get past that. when listening to it, i just wanted to listen to incubus. thats what ruined it for me and then they never put out anything else.

Fair enough. I feel SHTS is such a more developed album.

The musicianship and instrumentation is so much more original and diverse. WIITB was a great record for its time but if the band had continued that path I can only see terrible things for them.
