This one goes out to all you axe-swingers! Vote for your fav guitar player (and no, I won't be featuring Jimmy Hendrix or Jimmy Paige, because it's quite obvious that they rule and they aren't that influential anymore as they were like 10-15 years ago).

I pick Teppei Teranishi, lead guitarist for Thrice, this guy's just hyper!

what is randy from finch doing there?

anyways, teppei and what's his name from incubus get my vote.

I think no one's gonna vote for Randy or El Hefe, everyone's gonna pick Teppei, because the guy's such an axe-virtuoso, he plays even the most complicated riffs at the speed of light!

Anyway, these songs are good examples of what the other dudes have to offer:

Randy: Post Script + Grey Matter + What It Is To Burn
Mike: 11 a.m. + Wish You Were Here + Drive
Dave: In Too Deep + The Hell Song
El Hefe: Dinosaurs Will Die + Stickin' In My Eye
Jade: Dancing Through Sunday +
Days Of The Phoenix

It's not always about how virtous or fast they play, I'm also referring to songwriting skills, and Randy is (besides Nate, who writes the lyrics) the main force behind Finch.

teppei is fucking amazing, his skills are appalling, there is only one real choice

In my opinion Tom Delonge from Blink is a better guitarist than his reputation suggests. He might screw the set live on stage, but the riffs on their earlier releases like Buddha or Cheshire Cat were fuckin' amazing! Think of the "Strings" or the "Fentoozler" solo! And M+M's had the raddest intro ever!! Tom went completely nuts on the fretboard! But since Enema they only have these crappy little 3-notes-solos on their songs, if there's a solo at all :(

randy doesn't write very powerful riffs. haha.
the post script intro is like three notes played over and over.
nothing special about what it is to burn...
same goes with grey matter.

but then again, we're talking about punk.

You fucking tard

I gaurentee that you have never even picked up a guitar, because even a tone def fingerless 3 year old can play ANYTHING blink has ever put out...

I know from first hand experience, that the man has trouble changing his strings, let alone playing a "solo".

I think my favorite blink quote would have to be from Guitar Magazine back in 98 or 99... it was something like "I don't like to play solos because they are too hard. I stick to easy three chord songs because I can't play anything else..."

So for gods sake, DO NOT say that ass clown is a decent guitarist, infact don't call him a guitarist at all.

And as for the best punk guitarist...
You didn't include:
HIMSA
Hot Water Music
Chris Shiflett (ex- NUFAN who is now the lead guitarist of the Foo Fighters)
Ignite (similar to thrice but more talented)
and a plethra of others...

if I had to pick from the list that was given I would pick mike from incubus....but then again there is always somebody out there who can shred apart millions of guitarists that are being listened to on a regular basis and they are just somebody playing guitar in their room or a garage not getting the credits. personally there are too many guitarists out there and it totally depends on what kind of music you listen to/identify with for that individual to even give their opinion of who they think is the best guitarist because their decision will be biased towards that in which they listen to!

Does anyone else thing that the new metallica song kinda reminds them of a post hardcore band, with the loud beginning and then the soft verse and then the fast punk and back to the slow wierd time signatures, I told my friend that who is a die-hard metallica fan and he went ape shit on me

That's funny that you say that, because I'm playing guitar for almost two years now, wrote my own songs, recorded them to mp3 and been offered to contribute my music to a soundtrack for a street video production by timberwolfent.com (also check out my tabs for "Audio Karate" on mxtabs.net). So obviously I should know how to play guitar, don't you think? I don't know if you're playing guitar, but I'm sure you couldn't figure out the solos from Blink's "Strings" or "Fentoozler" yourself, which is what I did! I'm also pretty confident that you wouldn't even be capable of playing a pretty easy song like "All The Small Things" live without messing up! People like you, who obviously haven't got a clue about songs or guitar playing are always likely to say that everything's easy shit and that they could play everything blindly, but imagine you'd have to play in front of a 10,000 people audience, you wouldn't probably hit a single note rite. In my opinion you're just jealous, jealous that boys next door like Tom Delonge are so successfull with what they do without being maestros when it comes down to playing their instruments. This only shows that almost everyone has the chance to fulfill their dreams.

Also, if you had read my comment carefully, you would've noticed that I was only referring to the first two blink releases "Buddha" (1994) and "Cheshire Cat" (1995)! Also, I DID mention that Tom's not a good live guitarist! Also, I NEVER care, if a song or a certain part of it is hard to play, I solely care if it sounds good, I'm not like "this sux, because I could play that as well"!

Referring to your quotation of the Guitar Magazine - If you were familiar with the kind of humour and the "let's-make-fun-of-ourselves-attitude" Blink has, you'd be aware that Tom is always making fun of how he plays and that he tends to pretend that he can't play anything, which is, honestly, not true!

hmm my vote has to go to the best punk guitarist out there... and that is CHRIS CHENEY from THE LIVING END... I heard all of the guitarist listed and I just saw thrice live and they were good especially the guitarist... but Cheney shreds through all of them... (and yes I play guitar and bass) and on the metallica comment... is it just me or is the guitar none existent? sure its there but ya cant hear it for shit...
mike from incubus is pretty damn good... nice chord arrangment and his solos go perfect with his songs...

The Living End - Carry Me Home, Prisoners Of Society, Roll On, Growing Up (Fallin Down)

I've been playing guitar for over a decade, which is a little more experienced than your two years and sountracks for timberwolf.com .......
On top of that, I've played countless live shows and helped produce albums for bands such as Slimer, Nerf Herder, and Mad Caddies. So please, listen to me when I tell you to shut the fuck up about ANYTHING guitar related.

Tom sucks at guitar, and morons like you saying that he is some type of guitar god is a disgrace.

Really, over 10 years, how old are you? 25 or what? You seem more immature than me and I'm 17 years old! I think it's really ridiculous that you haven't got any good arguments in your posts at all and I'm pretty confident that you're at least 3 years older than me, what a pitty! All you do is swearing and calling me a retard, which is, even you'd have to concede, not true. See, I'm from Germany and I'm even better at English than you! I've learned a little more in school than applying 4 letter words in case of running out of arguments. "I've helped produce albums for bands such as Slimer, Nerf Herder and Mad Caddies, wow I'm so cool, bla bla bla!". I want proof, you idiot! And again, as I told you before, read carefully! Once again I have to admit that I did NOT mention that Tom's a good live guitarist!! I'd rather prefer a, how you call him, shitty, but in my opinion instantly likeable guitarist like Tom Delonge selling out shows and being famous than an arrogant, decent guitarist like you, who prides himself on being such a virtuoso and keeps on running down other guitar players, who might eventually be less talented only to make himself feel better!

Teppei is the best...followed closely by Mike Einzinger or whatever his name is. Mike's chord shapes are so so cool, and he creates perfect textures for the songs. Teppei just rocks the fretboard beyond all others. Jade is pretty good as well...the solos in 6 to 8 and Dancing Through Sunday are nice.

Page was great in a band, Vai and Satch make loopy solo records. It's a completely different medium. I also think that both of them are over-rated.
