jason, thank you so much for posting this. embodied in johnny cash was the spirit of song writing and story telling. he did so much for not only country music but for music as a whole and i think anyone creating music today could learn a hell of alot from the man in black. this man will never die

I am very glad this site actually posts things like this, it gives me hope for the "scene". This man is a legend, and country has some very good artists, once you get past the crap. I'm not afraid to admit that this performace of "Ring of Fire" made me tear up....RIP Johnny

I've never really been into his music too much, but I appreciate what he did and have always seen him as one of the collest, most badass motherfuckers in the history of man.

i'm blown away at the mature responses everyone has made on this thread. Johnny Cash was amazing. he actually played at my old church back in the 80's. apparently his sister (or sister in law) used to attend the church and invited him to play ,, there used to be pictures of that event hanging up in the old portion of the church but i think someone stole them. i wish i had a chance to see him live and meet him.

That was so fucking chilling. I had chills through that entire video. So bittersweet. He's was amazing and no singer/songwriter/whatever will ever come close to him again, in my opinion.

I find this video extremely depressing. You can see how deteriorated he was at that point, with the shaky hands and the guitar tech tending to him made me feel like I was watching a nurse tend to a bed ridden patient. He doesn't even get a real stage to perform on, and the people taking pictures and walking around made it seem like he was some display in a museum or a zoo. I don't know. Maybe I'm the only one who got this impression, but it just brings me down.

I thought that at first too, but I think there's a huge audience behind the camera, and the photographers are just there as they usually would be...as far as him being shaky, I think it's kind of incredible that he IS that shaky, but look what happened to the man when he started strumming...just like always
Thats history right there

What a great post! My 14 year old daughter loves Johnny Cash (and Elvis also), so I can't wait to show her this. I googled it and found out more about that performance. It was filmed at the Carter Fold in Hiltons, Virginia. Here's a link to more about it and some photos from that day if you're interested. It's great to see young people appreciating the great musicians of the past.
