You should check out William Fitzsimmons, he is pretty awesome. Think old Sufjan Stevens but with better guitar and vocals.

Bon Iver is a great recommendation. Also check out Jonsi's "Go." It's a beautiful album and it's more accessible than his other projects

If you want something that will give you the same feeling as The Dear Hunter (I don't know if you've mistaken the DEER Hunter for The Dear Hunter or not) but check out Forgive Durdens' "Razia's Shadow: A Musicial", RX Bandit's "Mandala". Oh, and check out Volcano Choir's "Unmap".Iit features Justin from Bon Iver. Just picture a Experimental/Post-Rock version of Grizzly Bear.
