Below you can read a studio update from Bayside (http://www.baysiderocks.com).
It's our second day in the studio, if you didn't get that from the headline. We're at "the clubhouse" in Rheinbeck, NY. We're recording drums right now in a big barn an living in the attached 5 bedroom farmhouse. It's pretty cool up here, if you're into this sort of thing. I was born and raised in Queens, NY so living on 10 acres of woods and being 5 miles from the nearest store is totally not my scene. We're trying to work out some sort of video update to give everyone a tour if the studio.

We spent all day yesterday and most of today getting drum sounds. We're recording in this huge barn so they're sounding pretty huge. At around 4:30pm today we decided on some tones and we started tracking. So far we have 1 drum take done for a song we're calling "SONG A" right now, for obvious reasons. We haven't came up with an official name yet. The chorus of the song is "The healing power of alcohol only works on scrapes and nicks, not on girls in seedy bars that drown themselves in it". If you think you have a good title, let us know. Chris is kicking ass so far. He's just going back into the drum room to start tracking a song we're calling "Master of Muppets" for absolutly no reason other then needing to call it something until we have a real title. If you've seen us live lately, that's the new song we've been playing.

We're going to be up here in Rheinbeck for about another week and then we head down to Queens to get started on bass and guitars. We expect to be finished with the record sometime in early December. Shortly after we finish recording, we're going to be playing 8 shows in the Northeast in small clubs just for kicks. All the shows are booked already but we're holding off on announcing club, date and ticket info until we feel like we're ready.

I know i haven't updated in a whille but I'll be back on the ball now that we're settled into the studio.

That new song is so damn catchy. Every time I see them I never am letdown. I really do hope the drums will sound as big as the last record now that they have a new drummer. Can't wait for this.

Posted by: MPGIRLI have every right to voice my opinion, having been a friend of John's for 20+ years. I'm not some fan or someone who doesn't know what I'm talking about. The fact of the matter is that many (if not all) of John's friends and family will agree that this band will continue to make money off of the death of someone whom WE love and respected beyond this lifetime. This band claims to have loved John like a brother, but has virtually abandoned John's entire family and friends. Following John's death I, despite my own pain at losing a lifelong friend, extended encouragement and support to these guys...I talked to them in person and e-mailed them. Like many of John's friends and family, my e-mails went ignored. The beginning of November marks the one year anniversary of John's death, but it also marks another anniversary - the one year anniversary of the last time ANY surviving member of this band has ever spoken to, consoled or even contacted John's family in any way, shape or form. The last thing John would have wanted was for them to stop playing music, but the FIRST thing John would have wanted was for them to take care of (emotionally, not financially) his family and his wife. Instead, they've avoided both the family and friend of John. Then they go on to make money off his death, playing the "band in mourning" card...taking advantage of the public's sympathy and compassion. If they gave a rat's ass about John or what was important to him, they'd have bothered to stay in touch with the family, even doing so little as dropping an e-mail to say "How are you guys?". Nothing. Nada. How hard is that to do??

Despite all my wishes for John's success over a lifetime of watching him play drums, I wish more than anything that I could turn back time and take away every single second he spent with those FAKE sons of bitches. I wish he were still back at St. John's University directing the pep band. I wish he had never met those guys. They are poison. Why does God take away good people? To spare them from evil. Now I understand.

Did you just hear that thump? That was Bayside falling off its pedestal. :(
