heartwrenching
probably the saddest movie Ive ever seen :-(
but still really good
I recommend watching "My Neighbor Totoro" after this, which is the complete oppsosite. it will cheer you up after being so involved with the tragic drama in this anime.

both of those played in theaters together right? like a double feature?

They originally showed it that way with My Neigbor Totoro first, Grave 2nd. It was so depressing that the most of the audience walked out of the theater and it failed miserably.

I bought the movie, watched it once, and never watched it again. It's good, but way too depressing.
I think the most powerful part is that you see the fate of the children at the beginning of the movie, and then it goes into flashback. You don't even get a chance to feel a bit of hope when the kids are having some brief positive things going on... you know they're doomed in the end and you know you're going to have to sit and watch how it happens.

Actually breaks your heart. It's amazing how this film is able to produce such a strong emotion.
This is probably the saddest film I have ever seen, and it is one of my favorites as well.
