They are indeed talented, but that's a rather rough claim to make.

i dont know, i dont really like them so i dont really find them talented. i will say they play some of the best slow songs out there, but they sound eerily similiar to me, and besides i only like slow rock if they have piano in it. plus i think i missed something with dani california the chorus made no sense to me, was i missing something?

Not enjoying their music or the band members, has nothing to do with their amount of talent. I'm not that into RHCP. But I would put them in a competition for the best of the past 20 years. But yes, "the best" is a huge claim to make. I know alot of people would say Nirvana, though I sure as hell wouldn't. I might say Oasis, but not that's not a sure answer.
Two Words, John Frusciante.

I think they are deftnetly the best major rock band at the moment, and the most talented band over the past 20 years. If you know what they have gone through the last 15 years. The death of the guitaris Hillel Slovak. The drugs addiction of Anthony Kiedis, Flea and John Frusciante was terrible. John was almost dead. The whole story is very very impressive, for people who want to find out i reccomend the biograpgy's on Wikipedia.org. I know them in person, not very good, but I know them. At pinkpop I've met them at Pinkpop 2006. Great If your uncle is in the management :D
They're nice guys, so far as I know them. Quite same style of thinking.
The points I say they are the best band at the moment:
The combination of the band: Flea, probably the best bassist at the moment. In cobination with Chad Smith probably the best rythem. John Frusciante, one of the best guitarists, quite link style of Jimi Hendrix. And Anthony Kiedis has a great voice. It's very good noticable when they're playing live, the voice on the CD's is almost not corrected.
Plus I like the style and have respect for the band's past.
That theyre not dead or stopped playing says reallty something over theyr wquality and talent.
That's my opinion.

i like them. flea is definately one of the best bassists of the time, if not of all time. unfortunately they are getting overplayed, so some of their songs get realy anoying to me, just becasue i hear them all the time on the radio. but all in all they are a really great band

John Frusciante is probably my favorite guitarist of all time. Yes, over Hendrix. Yes, over Page. Yes, over Clapton. Yes, over anyone.
There's something about his style, and the way he throws himself into the guitar when he plays. I'm not saying he's the best guitarist of all time or anything. I'm just saying that he's the best guitarist of all time in regards to what I feel makes a guitarist great.
Plus, you can't fuck with Flea on bass or Chad (aka Will Ferrell) on the kit. It just can't be done. I'm with the original poster on this. Most talented band of this generation.

absolutely agreed. I saw them october 20th. in boston at the garden. Frusciante blew my mind. I knew he would because I've seen live at the slane in ireland (which is amazing , if you love RHCP. buy it now.) They are the most talented, tightest musicains I've heard in awhile. They are the Led Zeppelin of this generation. also by the way chili fans. John Frusciantes solo albums are fantastic. if you can dig something less poppy and slightly different music wise. he's just such a genius.
Oasis has NOTHING on the chili peppers.
I'm still pissed they won the best british song ever written a couple years ago.

Though most of their songs sound the same to me.

that's not hard when every song you've ever written sounds the same.

I guess this is the official thread?
Once again, an amazing band that the majority of AP overlooks, unless they're involved in some form of controversy.
I disagree, all their songs sound exactly the same, same story for Nickelback (though, no one will disagree with that here), the similarities between all their songs literally makes them unlistenable for me.
I believe some of the more talented bands from the last 20 years are like, Muse and Thrice.. both are just way more varied than the RHCP in their music, and a whole lot more captivating.

the new single was posted on the site by accident for a moment, heard most of the song! Peppers haven't lost their touch, song seems very familiar and their style has definitely remained in tact.

Whoa, the first time, that's amazing to me. That's their best, IMO. If it had "Suck My Kiss", it'd be all you ever needed from that band.

Not too big on Suck my Kiss but I think BSSM is their best album. Californication comes close, if it wasnt for the recording quality/mastering
