We've plenty of money to give to other countries. Foreign aid is like 1% of our budget.

1% why so high?

I couldn't watch that, but the american government could spend just a smidge less on military and have some more money to go around.

1% why so high? I have no clue if it's exactly one percent. It's just my estimate.

This essentially. The OP seems to have a huge problem with feeding starving children but none with buying weapons of war.

It does matter how much we spend because I don't think we should focus on other nations till we perfect our own

the military budget is so insanely high that we could do both and probably still have the most heavily funded military

one could argue that a perfect country is an impossibility without a sense of generosity.

Then let's share with our self instead of with other nations.

that's not really a great example of generosity.

If we waited until we were perfect then we would never give to other countries.

Kind of the point. Why feed your neighbor when your kids are hungry?

How about a smaller Imperialistic/military footprint on the world = less money spent on the military.
= more money for other things
???

We could go without a base in Germany. Europe seems pretty chill nowadays.
I'd like to see a Global Nobody Waste Their Time Responding To Fishbones Act.

Nobodies gonna close any bases, because they all have some justification to exist.
Germany?? Stepping stone into Russia, the Balkans, staging point into Middle East.
I know I will likely attract the wrath of americans since I am after all, just a lowly Canadian, but your military is going to suck your country dry.

Yes, well then so be it. I have strong opinions about this subject so if that makes me full of myself then I can live with that.

You'll find it quite difficult to locate a regular who is going to argue with you that America needs to funnel more money into it's military. You're trying to give the vibe that you're on a high horse, but you're sitting in the same sea-level corral as the rest of us.

we should never help other countries?
Not when we are in debt and have the domestic problems that need the funds.
Enabling other countires with our money is not teaching them how to properly fend for themselves either. We have been way too overgnerous with that.
Yes we need to cut costs in other areas, but since we have not done that and we continue to spend, spend , spend & plunge our deeper & deeper into debt, we have NO BUSINESS giving money away that we will most likely NEVER SEE BACK.
It's common sesne.
Americans who are just below the level of receiving poverty aid don't get the aid partially due to the foreign aid spending & thats just wrong.
We don't enforce our borders & allow illegals to come in & take jobs away from Americans, thats wrong. We should be fining companioes who hire these people, not helping the illegals file greivances for higher pay.
Our priorities in this country are plain fucked up. The American people no longer matter to the government.

we've been in debt for most of our existence. why is debt never a problem when the right is in power?
although it's not always effective, money spent on vital infrastructure and education does set up the ability for others to fend for themselves.
if aid is successful in aiding the transformation of a given economy we'll be helping to create valuable trade partnerships if nothing else.
foreign aid is such a small part of the budget it's silly to point to it as much of a factor in limiting welfare.
this topic has nothing to do with immigration.
i agree about poor priorities, but my view of the government isn't nearly as pessimistic as yours.
