Instead of bribing radio stations with money and gifts for increased song plays, labels are now purchasing ads (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/25/business/media/25music.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&oref=slogin) which showcase their music and can be counted as radio spins.

thats like purchasing false statistics for your art. not a fan. curious to see how this plays out.

Exactly. I don't think I've turned on a radio in literally 5 years.

Yeah, I take it back actually. I do actually turn on the radio all the time. Just not for music. I listen to the Jim Rome show daily.

This isn't new at all. It's been like this for years. Practically since the original Payola scandal

The funny thing is most of the songs that you hear on these spots/ads are not even spinning on the station

The radio is just jealous of the Internet because no one listens to him anymore.

People who 1. don't have a CD player or 2. have a broken CD player and can't be bothered to fix it but still have to drive 3 hrs to school every once in a while
Not that I fit any of those :)

ha, i'm with ya. i drive at least 45 minutes to school every morning, and then of course back home too. my cd player won't eject my cd, and although its a good cd, it's wearing on me...i should just get it fixed.
luckily, here in buffalo, we pick up some toronto stations, so, its a little bit better than American radio. the big alternative station out of toronto plays city and colour, alexisonfire, brand new, etc etc all the time...not bad at all.

Anyone who still looks to the radio to get their music is a fuckin moron or a top 40 pop whore.
