View Full Version : Good Pop-punk
Before this thread starts off, I would like to let you know that I won't check out anyone elses' thread for recommendations because it is based on what THEY like. With that being said, last.fm hasn't been giving any good recommendations so I am turning to the AP forum to help me on this. I like Set Your Goals, Four Year Strong, A Day To Remember, Man Overboard, The Story So Far, Second To Last, Late Nite Wars, and With The Punches. However, I don't like The Wonder Years at all. Please help me with my music library. Thanks in advance

Gave them a chance, because I heard they were a fantastic band. I just am not a fan of Soupy's voice, and their reoccuring theme of "I am not sad anymore, I am just tired of this place" on The Upsides gets rather repetitive. Thanks for the recommendations.

I gotcha. Well if that's the case, you may like their first album "Get Stoked On It!".. it's much more FYS-esque. Completely different from The Upsides.

Considering that we have the EXACT same taste in music it seems you NEED to check out this band I just discovered tonight. I love Four Year Strong but have played them out already...terribly. So stumbling across this band has been a savior for me.
Drumroll please......CASTING CALL - Download their EP here: http://www.mediafire.com/?tpyasi3apma
Send me a pm if you like this....OR if you can recommend bands that are similar.
I have literally had this EP on repeat for a few hours and still get pumped beyond belief when the 1st song kicks on. The very first track is an intro
Some other bands I have recently have been introduced to that you may enjoy:
Boys of Summer: http://www.mediafire.com/?tpgy2n50al7 <----SICK
Anarbor: http://www.mediafire.com/?e26xl31nqec

Dangerous Summer (different album than above): http://www.mediafire.com/?yzfy2jwp1tp
The Downtown Fiction: http://www.mediafire.com/?w0zos3bqndr
You Me and Everyone We Know: http://www.mediafire.com/?b5ydkyixmeb
Not sure how many I would co-sign at this point as I am rapidly expanding my library as well and these are my most recent editions. I took a quick listen to each of them and they're my style so hopefully you'll get some out of this that you like.
Seriously though...if you haven't downloaded Casting Call yet....DO IT NOW

I'd have to agree with Polar Bear Club and the Swellers. They got some pretty sweet stuff.
With The Punches
On top of that, I'm going to recommend Set Your Goals, Four Year Strong, A Day To Remember, Man Overboard, The Story So Far, Second To Last, and Late Nite Wars.
Also, I'm an idiot who doesn't completely read the OP.

Racing Homer

Racing Homer is a pop punk band formed in 2009. The band is made up of 3 members: lead vocalist/lead guitarist/chief songwriter Mike Wagner, bassist/vocalist Russell Blake, and drummer Bert Toast.
Mike Wagner started the band in April of 2009 with friends, Russell Blake and Nico Filoseta. Originally, they were called Minor Delinquents, but soon realized that the name didn't really click. So one day, Mike and Russell found "racing homer" in a dictionary and decided to choose this as their new band name.
Racing Homer's first show was at Mike's step dad's comedy club in Marina Del Rey, called The Waterfront Restaurant and Concert Theater (at the time called The Organic Panificio).
Racing Homer cites mainly different influences, including: Green Day, blink-182, The Ramones, Allister, Less Than Jake, Goldfinger, MxPx, The Offspring, Bad Religion, Social Distortion, Simple Plan, Sum 41, Bowling for Soup, and The Bouncing Souls.
Nico quit the band in mid-2010 for creative differences, and the band quickly added Bert Toast to the lineup.

I cannot compare your likes to anything because I'm old and no longer with it in regards to the pop punk scene. I primarily know old stuff and some indie bands who send me stuff to review on my website (which incidently has a ton of free downloads, just go to http://thepaintedman.com and click free downloads on the cloud tag, I haven't put them all together on one page yet, but I intend to).
That said, if someone said to me, "name me 5 punk/pop punk bands to listen to", I'd respond with the following:
Bouncing Souls
Social D
Lifetime/Kid Dynamite/related projects
Less Than Jake (more pop punk than ska in their sound despite the horns)
NoFX
See, my tastes are a bit dated... but I'd recommend getting into most of what Epitaph and Fat were doing in the 90s. Some killer indie bands are out there too.
You say last.fm has sucked for you, have you tried Pandora. I routinely play my Social D Pandora station and the ocassional "new" band pops up for me in between the Pennywise, Supersuckers, Ramones, and Johnny Cash that I get to enjoy on that station.
