is it just me or is it really hard to write lyrics that are upbeat and happy without sounding cheesey? i cant and i dont think ive seen one in this whole section yet!

i agree with you completely. i've tried to do that, and i have one of my songs up here, an upbeat happy one, but i have no clue if it's cheesy or not. i just hope it isn't.

it doesnt connect with us because most songs.. (especially pop) are about happiness...our happiness needs to have a bitter taint to it....do you know what i mean? anyways whatever

people dont want to hear happy stories, they wanna here heartbreak, death, disaster, so they can feel good about there own lives after realizing for an hour that they relate to the song

although people do like hearing about death, heartbreak ect. i think people like hearing happy stories too. why else would there be such a huge buzz aroudn the boybands and that shit. the general public loves happy/poppy music. although i dont really, i do like bands like days away and i think most of their songs are happy. The Rocket Summer is another good example. But i do agree with you that people like to be able to relate....because there is way more saddness/ heartbreak in our lives, and we experience stuff like that way more often.. thus making it more personal and easier to relate to.
