I'm going through a tough time right now and I wanted something that suits the mood.
Something like Lydia. Anything like Lydia. Thanks guys.
Edit: Anything like Brand New or As Cities Burn are fine too.

Portishead - Dummy or Third
Okay, maybe not a lot like Lydia (at all), but it's worth a listen if you're feeling really down.

Not really the kind of music I'm looking for but thanks anyway.

The Smiths - Louder Than Bombs.
not exactly the genre you seem to be looking for, but the last few tracks fit the mood.
I'm listening to a song off this album right now and it seems to somewhat fit with what you said so here goes:
Jimmy Eat World - Futures
Not a super sad album but it is dark.
Ben Moody- All For This is a really dark album.

Was listening to it just yesterday. Beautiful, beautiful album, especially 23 and Kill.

This band is so good I feel like I owe you for bringing them to my attention.
In The Aeroplane Over The Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel is a fantastically beautiful and sad album. It's hard to explain the way that cd made me feel. It was a combination of longing to live in the past and missing people I've only ever met in dreams.
Definitely worth checking out.

The lyrics of Neutral Milk Hotel are definitely sad. But it almost seems like its a "cheerup" album.

If you like Lydia, maybe check out some Lovedrug or Alive in Wild Paint.
Also, check out Great White Whale by Secret and Whisper. While this isn't necessarily the saddest album as a whole, there are some songs that get you good (Werewolves, Great White Whale).
Hope I helped!
But when I've got the blues, nothing cures it like Lydia does. Absolutely nothing. Since you mentioned that you enjoy them, I hope you've listened to Assailants.

Heard all of the recommendations of yours except for Secret and Whisper. Thanks though. Really appreciate it. I've heard Assailants and nothing says pain more than Never Seen A Witch.

The Antlers especially and then Bon Iver is just amazing. Still have to hear Frank Sinatra though and haven't heard much of Buckley besides Hallelujah.

You should get on that. They're both classics.

Saves the Day - Sound the Alarm and Under the Boards both help me through rough times.
City and Colour - just about all of his stuff also helped me during that same time.
I agree with the Portishead comment. Third is such an amazing album.
A lot of people consider Radiohead to be sad, either way, In Rainbows is still the most beautiful album I have ever heard. I didn't think they could top OK Computer or Kid A, but I think they did.
The National and The xx also have some great albums, I guess they could be classified as sad as well. :D
If you aren't in to that type of music, Hours by Funeral For a Friend is a really good album as well, it has a real sad vibe to the whole thing. It's great, and more punky if you like that kind of stuff. Hope this helped!

I wouldn't say that it's exactly a 100% sad album, but it is pretty.

Listen to the This Mortal Coil trilogy (It'll End In Tears, Filigree and Shadow, and Blood). TMC was the brainchild of Ivo-Watts Russell, head of 4AD records. The albums consist mostly of Ivo's favorite songs, reinterpreted by various 4AD artists (Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, Kim Deal, Dominic Appleton). Great music!
