Total direct tort costs were $255 billion in 2008. According to the report "Jackpot Justice (http://www.pacificresearch.org/docLib/20070327_Jackpot_Justice.pdf)," lawsuit abuse costs every American a hidden "tort tax" of about $2,000 a year in higher prices and insurance premiums, fewer new products, lower wages and benefits for working people, higher health care costs, and reduced access to care. And the current tort system is very inefficient at its intended purpose -- less than 15 cents of every tort-cost dollar goes to compensate plaintiffs.
The threat of lawsuits encourages physicians to practice defensive medicine -- ordering unnecessary tests, procedures and referrals to protect themselves against allegations of negligence. This drives up health care costs. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/short/293/21/2609), 93 percent of doctors admit to practicing defensive medicine. Eliminating this costly threat would save the U.S. health care system $191 billion each year and allow 3.4 million Americans to afford health insurance.
Holy shit 93% of docs practicing "defensive medicine"! $2,000 a year in hidden "tort tax"
I don't know how this wasn't considered in the healthcare bill....or in the "job creation" plan

New research from a duo at the Museum of the Rockies argues that the triceratops may never have been a distinct species, but rather the younger form of another dinosaur.
After comparing the skull shape of the triceratops to that of its close relative, the torosaurus, researchers John Scannella and Jack Horner concluded that the triceratops may actually be a juvenile form of the torosaurus (not an entirely different species), as dinosaurs' skulls could change shapes during their lifetime.
New Scientist explains:
Now Scannella and Horner say that triceratops is merely the juvenile form of torosaurus. As the animal aged, its horns changed shape and orientation and its frill became longer, thinner and less jagged. Finally it became fenestrated, producing the classic torosaurus form.
This extreme shape-shifting was possible because the bone tissue in the frill and horns stayed immature, spongy and riddled with blood vessels, never fully hardening into solid bone as happens in most animals during early adulthood. The only modern animal known to do anything similar is the cassowary, descended from the dinosaurs, which develops a large spongy crest when its skull is about 80 per cent fully grown.
Scannella and Horner's findings would help explain why only adult torosaurus fossils have ever been uncovered. According to New Scientist, "torosaurus will now be abolished as a species and specimens reassigned to triceratops."
As Boing Boing points out, the new research highlights one of the major challenges of paleontology: "Paleontologists are tasked with reconstructing the lives of animals nobody has ever seen alive. And that creates a world where the obvious just isn't."

:-d I concur. The originality of the music is what keeps me coming back for more. If there's one thing the scene suffers a severe lack of, it's whiny, adolescent punk songs with a bratty sensibility, performed by instrumentalists who are fond of 4-chords repeating one after another, forgoing the pursuit of actual musical prowess for an attempt to master the right "look" of tough, lovable hardness that the ladies (ages 12-17) so crave.

its a hiddeen cost in that it results in a dominio effect...
how could it not cut costs if the cost of care goers down?
If doctors practice "defenseive" medicine" to avoid huge lawsuits and make outrageoues prices for dr visits, surgeries etc., just in case they get sued....how could limiting the amount of money that they could be sued not result in lower costs?
If it takes me less money to operate my business, naturally I'll be able to sell my product for a lower cost because overhead costs are lower...

To set the record straight, "Short skirts & pantyhose" was off of our 1st EP. We are not a "political" band...We wrote 1 song about politics..."Burn it" off of our 2nd EP and thats it.
We aren;t trying to change the world, we like writing simple pop-rock thats fun to dance to & is catchy enough to get stuck in your head...We are going to expand on the sound in the next release, add some electronic beats & more tempo changes, but at the heart of the band, we just wanna write stuff thatss fun...We love pop-punk...We don't care if everyone on this board who disagrees with our political views wants to tear us down...We aren;t playing for you...We have fans who love us & know who we are as people....
To the person who said we look like we work at Taco Bell...you are sadly mistaken...
I've been selling health insurance for the last 3 years...I'm not dumb enough to wear rock-n-roll get up when I visit 70 year old clients on Medicare on a home appointment, lol

The insurance compnies pay their claims better than the government...
Original Medicare denies claims more than any private plan...both volume & percentage wise..and thats a government health plan...
Medicare Advantage, run by private compnies pays claims at a higher percentage & allows the docs to perform their "defenseive medicine" tests, like MRI's that cost the insurance company quite a bit...They don't make huge profit margins when you look at what it costs them to pay claims & handle admin costs & pay employees...Advantage plans also result in 27% less hospitalizations than OPriginal Medicare patients because of their emphasis on preventive care and they cover vision/dental/hearing not covered by Original Medicare....
Without tort refrom, medical costs cannot go down, because doctors have to cover their butt in case of an uncapped lawsuit...

Okay... and your point being?
What "claims" does the government even have? They don't provide health insurance. You just proved your entire point wrong from the gate.
Your Medicare statistics are skewed at best. Of course Medicare denies more people... only people of a certain age and under certain conditions even qualify, whereas ideally anyone can buy health care from a private insurer. Another difference is that the money for Medicare is socialized, whereas the private insurance companies actually have the money to be able to cover anyone who ever applies, but then they'd have to give up their multi-billion dollar bonuses, so it's easier to deny people they can pay for. Yet another difference is that you get turned down for Medicare at the start, you don't pay into it for twenty years and then get denied because you twisted your ankle when you were twelve. You're comparing apples to oranges.
Insurance companies reported record profits last year. You're full of shit.
True...but we write about girls and partying alot more, lol :)
Which is why everyone on here thinks you're extremely intelligent and probably know what you're talking about :D

Politics aside, if you're even aware of the current music business climate, pop-punk bands cannot get a simple break. Hell, Gabe Saporta abandoned that route and had to make a name for himself in the dance-pop genre. Your band is a million in one case. You're better off focusing on your career to make a living and simply enjoy playing music as a hobby.

You are confsing nisurance companiy practices in the non-medicare market with the medicare market....
I didn't say it wasn't?
You're not very good at reading, are you?
I said the government doesn't offer an insurance plan. Medicare is a government program, but it isn't an insurance plan anymore than a government-run soup kitchen is a restaurant. I can't just waltz in and get Medicare, I would have to qualify for the standards set up for it, because they get their money from funding, rather than by taking it from people and then refusing to use it to pay for other people who are also giving them money.

do you have any links or facts or statistics that can back up these points?
Here you go...
http://www.ahip.org/content/pressrelease.aspx?docid=30659
The new AHIP report was based on an analysis of hospital discharge datasets provided by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) as well as state discharge data acquired directly from the states of Pennsylvania and Texas. In the states studied, estimated risk-adjusted readmission rates were about 27-29 percent lower in Medicare Advantage than Medicare FFS per enrollee, 16-18 percent lower per person with an admission, and14-17 percent lower as measured per hospitalization.

check out the summary tables no this one for proof...
It maks sense too, since more benefits are covered, and they even pay for health club/fitness memberships, to keep them healthy & out of the hsospital in the 1st place...

33 yrs old ( I know I look like I'm 23), I have a health insurance background & I loved pop-punk music for the last 13 years...the rest of the band is 19, 20 & 21...I don't like Liberalism because I believe you should have to work for you want...
Because all liberals believe nobody should ever work for anything.
I've never even collected a penny from unemployment in my life...I work my ass off , was never given anything, moved out of my parent at 17...So I naturally have a bit of resentment to liberalism based upon my life experiences...
I've never collected a penny from unemployment, either. Nor was I ever given anything. I have, however, given back. And it didn't kill me. It's called basic human compassion. You should try it sometime. It might interfere with your selfish whiny asshole lifestyle, though.
I go into slums where people absue the system & get everything for free and make everyone else pay for it because they are too lazy to do anything for themselves...
Yeah, those lazy bastards. Don't they understand it's really easy to get a job when you smell like dog shit and don't have an address or phone number to write down on your application?
I believe in helping others that deserve the help...I am not heartless...If I can, I will give you the shirt off my back, but at some point the spending spree on social programs has got to stop...
Clearly, you don't. You just summed up not only the entirety of homeless America, but every liberal in America. But you have so many examples of the lazy asses you despise, maybe you could help by offering an example of helping out?
Let me tell you a story about my dad. He's 52 years old, he's been working since he was 18. He worked in warehouses until he was about 40, and then made it into manager positions. We moved to Missouri, and now he works as a manager. He's the lowest-paid person in his position in the entire company. And he's the only one with a family. Of seven.
He also puts in the most hours in general. When he comes home, he lays down, because he has bad legs and his legs and feet swell to about 150% their regular size just from walking. When peak season comes, he tends to work in spurts of five months in a row, with no days off.
We also qualify for no government programs whatsoever, so when my autistic sister needs medicine or a medical operation, we get to pay out of pocket. Our employer-based insurance also doesn't pay for anything under $10,000, so any dental or vision procedures also come out of pocket.
So why don't you shut your fucking mouth about who is or isn't lazy and who is or isn't "worthy" of your pity or of human compassion or of fucking HELP in general for a while, yeah? Because I think quite a few people are sick of your shit, at this point. You're nothing but talking points and empty words. You don't know a damn thing.

I have no problem paying taxes to help people like your dad...
But paying taxes to help repeated felons & illegals get access to the food stamps intended for my mom who is disabkled & WORKED for her disability benefits...that I have a problem with..god forbid they pay $2.50 for theiir generics instead of $1.10

Yeah, and I have just as much of a problem with it.
So maybe we could tone down the stereotyping and rampant, militant generalizations? Because I highly doubt you know the entire personal history of every single person you're mouthing off at. I'd be hard-pressed you knew that of any one, really.

And those people definitely account for 100% of similar people all over the country, right? Or maybe it's just where you live, because it's a cesspool.
Are you aware that most homeless people are war vets who are homeless because they can't get a job without thinking the closing of a cash register is a bomb going off, or someone tapping them on the shoulder sends a message to their breain to turn and shoot? But those sure are some worthless crack whores, aren't they?

I've never collected a penny from unemployment. I can say that (and any other synonym of the word 'collected') because I've never collected unemployment. That's pretty much the only requirement towards being able to say, 'I've never collected unemployment', and unfortunately, denies you entrance into this awesome 'I've never collected unemployment' club.

It's one thing to be an incompassionate, racist bag of hatred, but responding to someone not liking your band with this? Wow. You have some issues. Is that how you go on stage? Do you say "thank you all for being here, you're not hideous cuntrags like everyone who isn't here!" and then proceed to play songs about beer and panties?
You're going to make it HUGE, bro.
