Immediately following their recent Canadian tour, The Flatliners (http://www.absolutepunk.net/theflatliners) were robbed in Montreal, Quebec. You can read a short message from the band regarding the incident below.
First off, days after our Canadian tour ended we were robbed in Montreal. The people with nothing better to do than inconvenience and aggravate this touring band didn't get away with any of our equipment, but did manage to nab Paul's passport and all of Jon's CDs. We're talking close to 100 CDs GONE! We're working on compiling a list of missing records. Once it's ready we'll post it right here, and see if anyone can help us in replacing these for him. We're lucky we've still got everything else, but fuck those motherfuckers.

This definitely sucks, but at least it's not their equipment like MW&C and countless others. Lost CDs don't affect their ability to keep touring.

stolen passports suck too, but at least they're in their home country and not another one.

maybe bands keep getting robbed because sites like this keep posting it, and readers realize that its an easy grab...not to mention most venues are in the worst neighborhoods of every town...
either way, i think posting this stuff A) encourages people to break into bands vans and B) doesnt help anyone, who actually gives bands money? just go to their show next time and buy a shirt.

yeah, I'm sure because this stuff is posted, the music fans on this site after seeing how tragic it is to these bands, are going and using that idea and robbing bands and their livlihoods.. I'm sorry but that is one of dumbest things I've ever seen posted here.
Saying posts like these actually encourage people to rob and steal from bands is by far one of most outlandish things I've read here.

100% correct, first off the initial post that was put up here was in regards to "Why are so many bands getting their shit stolen" well you fucking dumbass(guy up top aka scene police) i wasnt aware every time a fucking indie/emo/rock you name it band whose sold 10,000 records total, ever, got their shit stolen makes it to the front page of usa today/ ny post. The only reason the initial poster had that incliniation is due to the fact she reads this site every day and reads a post regarding stolen equipment once a week. The reality of it is: who knows who stealing shit, where i come from its typically drug addicts however with some of the geniouses on here who have "been in the real world and just got the new cute is what we aim for cd" this may not hold true. Bottom line, the more attention that bands are getting the better, if their shit gets stolen and they gotta telegraph it so people can feel bad and send money/liquor and 1500 myspace plays then thats their perrogative.

that's quite the negaitive outlook.. you think because a band gets their shit stolen and it's posted about, that it's a marketing ploy? are you serious?! I agree that it's probably some worthless drug addicts taking their shit, and 100 cds is not a huge deal, happens to lots of people.. but when a band gets their entire trailer or van stolen and that is all they have, that is what they survive on, then it is newsworthy. I highly doubt that the 16-22 audience of ap.net music fans sees these occurences and takes it upon themselves to use them to their advantage by stealing from bands that are trying to tour and "make it" give me a break

that whole "this site encourages people to steal band's equipment" is bullshit, if just reading about it happening encourages you to steal then you wouldn't have enough self-control to stop yourself from stealing given the opportunity in the first place.
By raising awareness this site helps with donations.

well I'm glad you have an opinion...although I have tour with bands and managed bands. most break in occur at venues. Outside of these venues you have a majority of kids who attended the show...I've seen ipods get stolen out of a bands van at KTUB here in seattle. Scott webber can tell you that there are no drug addict/crack heads in that area.... I'm just putting some thing together in my head and wanted to voice my personal opinion.
personally I think if you stop advertising how easy it is for stuff to be stolen, then I would bet the amount of break in may go down....
also, any band who doesn't spend $200 on an alarm for their van has no sympathy from me...

I think it's unfortunate that these guys lost their cds and a passport, but I think it's a bit ridiculous that they are expecting people to help them out to get this stuff reimbursed. It's not like anything was stolen that would prevent them from playing their music for their fans.. in which case, i would probably find their plead for support more understanding.

You can't be serious. ....Theft as an advertisement? These guys are jsut lucky none of their real shit was stolen. If you remember the MWC theft like 3 days ago, the thief(ves?) got an almost-brand new van, and a trailer full of very VERY expensive equipment. Advertising? You're fucking stupid.
what, is this like the 10th band this month?
rough world out there.

An Ipod is one thing, a whole trailer/van full of expensive equipment is a completly different thing.. You saw ipods get stolen out of vans? Maybe that band member should have been smart enough and not left it unattended, sitting in an unlocked van. I would almost gurantee that the asshole pricks that steal trailers/vans/equipment from bands aren't some kids at the venue or ap.net readers, but rather some loser criminals with no soul or conscience that think's it's okay to steal from others, especially bands on tour. I highly doubt people read this site, get ideas, and make a plan to go to a show and steal a van/trailer.. On the other hand of things, I totally agree with you about the $200 alarm.

where were they playing in montreal? most of the venues are on one of the downtown main streets but I guess wherever you are there's a chance of it happening. at least it wasn't the whole van like MW&C. it could have been worst.

it sucks to get robbed, BUT, why do bands always feel it's a fan's responsibility to help replace their stolen shit?
I've gotten my cd's stolen countless times. should I as a fan be entitled to write jordan pundik and ask him to replace my copy of nothing gold can stay?
it's bullshit!

is it just me or do ska bands get robbed more than anyone?
I doubt the twats who go through with this have any idea, but maybe its because ska bands tend to have more equipment than the average non-ska band..
Also, its weird how every year theres a bunch of music related events happening all at once - This month is robberies, last month was break ups..

I'm with both of you on this one.
While it's nice to ask for donations, I've literally seen posts saying "So and so have been robbed, donations can be made here".
