View Full Version : Gatsby's First Born

Garett Press

For those unaware, Gatsby's American Dream has spawned it's first side project. Kay Kay and his Weathered Underground (http://www.myspace.com/kaykayunderground) (featuring GAD's Kirk and Kyle) are set to release a cassette (http://ecarecords.com/releases/kay-kay/cassette-ep/index.php) on ECA Records this November, and have 2 upcoming shows in Seattle. A little birdie tells me that labels are in arms over this one, so check them out for yourself. We'll be bringing you an exclusive (even newer than the cassette) pronto.

it's new. kyle was a touring member of GAD for the tours after volcano. then he joined the band for recording of s/t. this project started as a joint effort from kirk and kyle, as previously stated, and gavin from this providence does some guitar work on the album. they also have a third member, whose name is phil, and he also did the recording of their songs. i hear that they are getting label attention as well, and will tour outside of seattle once they get a label backing to help them go out on tour, since this project touring would require a lot of extra musicians to pull the songs off live.

theres programs you can buy that allow you to transfer vinyl and cassettes to your computer. it costs around $80, atleat the one i saw. it comes with the software and hardware device to do it.

Hey friends,
We did the cassette because it is the most beefy form of audio; rich, warm and almost impossible to find something to play it on. It makes you the hipest, coolest kid on your block, but no one will be able to hear why. I have posted the tracklisting below. It comes out November 7th, but we are shipping out orders now. It's a limited run and we had to spray paint them at the office and all got pretty messed up with fumes. An amazing time. The perfect soundtrack to a spray-paint-trip-out.
Tracklisting::
1. Into the Realm of the Unknown
2. Hey Momma
3. Night of the Star Child Funk

It's 3 bux postage paid. We'll be doing more cassette singles in the future because no one buys them and eca has a long and proud tradition of losing lots of money. Thanks. I am glad people seem interested/weirded out/ annoyed at this format of a release.

Ripping a cassette or vinyl is easy enough. Just get a player with some Y-cables that plug into the in on your soundcard and the output of the player. Grab some recording software like gold wave, hit play on the tape and record to wav. Split it up/do individual tracks, and encode to favorite format.

Dave Conway
10/30/06, 02:47 PM
yea, that's fairly easy...or...you can spend 3 bucks and have something rad that isn't a 2nd rate file version of it. Buy a tape player for 2 dollars at a yard sale. Find some MC Hammer tapes in the trash and start livin' the dream. Life is analog.
Nothing is hotter than strolling the boardwalk with a bangin' tape deck. Go rent Thrashin' and see what the deal is. Life aint file conversions...its JAM BOXES and HOT JAMZ. Open the door and get a move on. You are missing the fall. Borrow your uncle's huge car. It has a tape deck. Pop it in a trip your balls off. Crank it up when you hit an open stretch of highway. KISS THE GIRL. She doesn't want to hear about GOLD WAVE, she wants a nice kiss and a tape deck and some tunes. Make her happy. Live it. xo -dmc.

Dylan,

Yes. Seriously. The cassette was actually created in Listowel, Ontario by your great great grandfather. So if you wanna go ahead and razz on your family's deep and proud heritage, go for it man. Here's the deal though. I am old. I am 26, yes 26 years old. In my day we road slabs of stone to school. The other thing we did was when you fell madly in love with the girl who sat next to you in math class, you mad her a killer cassette. Why a cassett? Well, cuz cdrs were 22 dollars each AND, and Dylan here's the important part...you had to actually sit there and listen as the tape was being made. There was no mp3 burning. You had to experience the music in real time, that you were about to hand to someone in hopes that it would effect them too. Mix cdrs aren't love Dylan, they are a one night stand...fleeting and simple. Depth, passion, romance are cassettes. so if are asking me if I seriously released a cassette the simple answer is yes, the more complicated answer is that it is to show the younger generation that purity and love in music can still happen. Can you find a way to rip this music into mp3 and IM it to friends with ease...yes...but the deeper question is...do you want to? Dylan. Find love. Find a purpose. Find a cassette deck man.
