Yea that's some bullshit.

What's to keep a team from doing this for the rest of the game if they are in the lead and kick to start the half?

I didn't like the new clock changes when they were first introduced, and now I really hate them.

I see it as kind of disrespecting the game and Joe Paterno, but I guess you do what you have to to win.

seriously, that was my first thought. you have to change this rule right now. jesus. imagine if someone pulled this in the BCS title game?

Ohio State scores a TD on the first drive and burns the rest of the 1st half doing this? jesus. what a sham. College Football because more and more of a joke to me with every passing year.

the rules in college football suck.Yea like the overtime rule. It's pretty shitty how both teams get a chance with the ball.

hahaha...best part, Wisco gets the ball with no time left because they had already run it all off

it used to be just like the NFL..where the clock doesnt start until the offensive player touched the ball

but they changed it recently so that the clock starts as soon as the ball is kicked

for what reason though? i have no idea

they changed the rule to shorten games. even though the games last 3 times as long as they should cause they have to take 30 fucking tv timeouts per game.

The new rules suck. They should have left it how it was. Who cares how long the games are.

The new rules are pretty shitty. I don't really mind the clock running when the ball is kicked instead, I do mind that it runs on a change of possession though.

I still like college over the nfl tho.

Couldn't you just decline the penalty if you really wanted the ball? Or do you have to accept it?

You could decline it. But with guys being 10 yards offsides, you're probably going to get some shitt field position. Haha.

True...but in terms of mikeford saying you can keep declining it or w/e...that would never happen.

uhhh, decline the penalty and take the ball. not that hard to get around it. it's a shitty flaw in the rule though.

And i don't have problems with the clock starting on the kick, however like someone said, the rules on the clock starting on change of possession are fucking ridiculous.

I mean, seriously. If PAUL MCGUIRE can figure out they did it purposefully then the Penn State coaching staff should be able to figure it out. I mean, come on. It's PAUL-FREAKING-MCGUIRE.

i HATE the new time rules.

i don't mind starting the clock as soon as the ball's set after a first down, instead of it staying stopped until the snap. that one i'm fine with.

the clock starting with the kicker on kickoffs is ridiculous, and the clock starting at change of possession is just as ridiculous.

i understand they wanted to speed the games up, but if you have to ruin the quality of the game to do that, it's not worth it. i'd rather a 4 hour game with fair clock play than a 3 and a half hour game with fucking clock rules like this.

bigmike

Unless I've been wrong for a long time, but I always thought after a first down that the clock started once the ball was set, not when it was snapped.

i hate the rule, but i love the strategy by wisconsin.

i dont think its "pussy" or "cheap" ..its just really smart. Do I hope this keeps occuring in college football? No ..but I blame the rule, not the coach for being smart enough to take advantage of it.

Not when it was on a change of possession. They changed that this year.

When it's a change of possession the clock starts when the ball is set.

When it's a change of possession the clock starts when the ball is set.

Yeah, but this is the first year they've done that.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2006-08-08-clock_x.htm

The first change means the clock starts on a kickoff when the ball is kicked, not when the receiving team touches it. The other change means the clock starts on a change of possession when the ball is marked ready for play, not when it is snapped.

college really has to re-evaluate some of their rules. that one in particular but also if they really wanted to speed up the game, than stop stopping the clock when you get a first down, keep it running like in the nfl. also i don't understand how if you run out of bounds or the ball get's kicked into the endzone how the clock doesn't stop. i mean i get how but they should really tweak it so that if your in bounds after the kickoff you should keep the clock running, but if you run out of bounds or the ball get's kicked through the endzone than the clock should stop
