View Full Version : pop-punk ...that sounds so cliché.

I know lots of people request pop-punk here, but everyone has some sort of preference, right?
I'm looking for recommendations. I like bands like Transit, Four Year Strong, Set Your Goals, and the Swellers. What do all these bands have in common? Meaningful lyrics. I don't like listening to songs with trash lyrics about girls in every single song. I can't get into bands like Man Overboard, I Call Fives, and even Title Fight because of it. I like having lyrics with substance. That's why I love Transit so much.
Anyways, recommend away AP.

That was sarcasm, use the search engine and you'll find thread very similar to this. In my opinion, the wonder years have the most meaningful and sincere lyrics of any band in the pop punk genre right now. Soupy is a phenomenal poet/lyricist, and an all around smart guy. I think if you take a look at the the last three releases by the wonder years (distances, won't be pathetic forever and the upsides) these are some of the best pop punk releases in the last few years. Consider me a bit fanboyish, but these guys put on the best live show i've seen in a LONG time, and they have a great DIY attitude.
