just something i heard. is it really illegal for companies to give a bad reference?

God I hope so, but I doubt it.
Regardless, it does me no good because GAP doesnt give references, bastards.

a former employer of mine that was going to school for law once told me it runs along the lines of libel. i think if they ask specific questions about your performance then, of course, your old employer can answer honestly.

yeah. they can answer questions, that's it.
most the times, they just confirm that you did work there and leave it at that. not many places will ask many follow up questions.

The other day someplace called my work about a coworker and my boss just said you dont want to hire him.
Interesting that its illegal though.
