Who'd you expect to premiere the first new Fall Out Boy (http://www.absolutepunk.net/falloutboy) tune to the world? What? Where? Here (http://www.absolutepunk.net/falloutboy). How's that for an ABSOLUTExclusive.

Jason Tate

For those curious: No, this is not the first single from the album. And Pete's latest journal entry is hilarious.

My thoughts on the screaming: they do it on every album on one or two songs, I'm expecting that to be the same as this ... probably won't be on other tracks. I think it adds a nice touch to the bridge, and I like it.

Why does this song have the same bassline as "Our lawyer made us change the name of this song"? Please tell me i'm wrong about this!

You're not wrong. There is a guitar part that is also identical to the part in Our Lawyer that goes "we will leave you high and dry, it's not worth the hearing you'll lose". Maybe they ran out of ideas. Or maybe it was an intentional musical reference to their last album, much like Our Lawyer was to Grand Theft Autumn.

Talented, to me, is also a subjective term. For example, I think to write songs this catchy takes extreme amounts of talent. And I'm envious of Patrick's vocals as well. Otherwise, everyone could do it.

But I also understand where others say it's "talentless" music. So, that brings me full-circle to my idea that the idea of "talent" is subjective.

i'd consider myself a pretty big FOB fan, and I'm really excited for this next album, but i'm sort of on the fence with this song...

Patrick's voice is incredible (as always on the recordings), I love the high note he hits with the falsetto in the chorus after the bridge. it sounds in credible. plus the layering and effects on his voice sound really good and crisp, even though maybe people are saying this still isn't mastered (?) i can't tell. it sounds pretty good to me. also the hooks and melodies are intense and mind-numbingly catchy, but...

i don't think the lyrics are all that great to tell you truth. Even though they are always completely wrapped in teen-angst and cliches, I always really like FOBs lyrics, but this just didn't live up to it. some lines seem forced, and a lot of it was just cheesy in my opinion. Plus it seems like there was no time put into getting the lyrics and the song to flow nicely together. Patrick is doing so much of his crazy wailing (which I normally like a lot) that it seems like he's over compensating for the lack of continuity with lyrics and melody.

and although i seem to be beating a dead horse, i'm also not a huge fan of that screaming...i understand the contrast of Stump's smooth vocals with the crass sound of Pete freaking out, but i just don't like it. it takes away from an extremely catchy song, and, much like the lyrics, sounds forced. maybe i'm just not a big pete fan? probably..

well. that's my rant. go easy on it, i do really like the song. i'm looking forward to this release.

i don't think the lyrics are all that great to tell you truth. Even though they are always completely wrapped in teen-angst and cliches, I always really like FOBs lyrics, but this just didn't live up to it. some lines seem forced, and a lot of it was just cheesy in my opinion. Plus it seems like there was no time put into getting the lyrics and the song to flow nicely together. as much as I hate to say I, I think I agree with you. Parts of the lyrics are intriguing, but they're not as inventive as some of FOB's older songs.

My thoughts exactly. I don't care too much for the screaming in any of the FOB songs. Patrick's voice became much better too, a much wider range of vocals.

Jason, thanks for posting this, AP fuckin' rocks.

This song is catchy as hell, but it took a few listens and reading of the lyrics for it to really sink in. I like the style of the lyrics, less introspection and more symbolism.

The screams add a nice touch to the bridge.

Ok, I'm really suprised so many people liked that song. because I feel they took everything bad about the last album and combined it into one song. I thought it was terrible. Sorry folks. (listen to it with headphones on, it makes a big difference)

the levels and tones of this song def do not match up to prior releases.... but then again this is a stream. the metal breakdown ending was pretty pontless and didnt add anything to the song except trying to broaden their already massive fan base.

I must say when I first listened to this song I was like...hmm.

But now I've had it on my iPod for a few days and a few dozen plays and it's stuck in my head. LOL. I love it quite a lot. Can't wait for the new record!

About the screaming, I'm getting use to it. Let it be said that I HATE HATE HATE bands that write music that is entirely that sort of throaty screaming. The closest I get to hardcore screamo is The used, and that's not very close at all. heh. Pete tho, can't pull it off fully, and it's a softcore sort of screaming that I think sounds pretty OK and doesn't make me want to throw up. Sometimes it makes me laugh too (just like everything else about Pete) and that's always good.

And anyway, I'll get behind any screamo bridge that involves ice cream headaches and angst. LOL, Pete, wtf were you writing about here, you weirdo. Ashlee?

Patrick, as expected, sounds fabulous. Can you believe he didn't know he could sing this way? He was a drummer LOL. That would have been such a waste of a lovely voice. I agree with Jason, when he hits the high note on the end of the second verse, I shiver a little.

Not the most complex of guitar or drum work. I am particularly eager to hear some of the great drum stuff Pete said was going on in the studio. I'm a bit of an Andy fangirl. Hehe.

FOB vs MCR for a Grammy nomination? (I gotta say I'm leaning toward MCR, but it would be awesome if they both got one.)

I really tried to make it through the last 6 pages but I gave up, so sorry if I repeat something someone else has said.

Anyway, I think this is their LEAST catchiest song they've ever released. I've listened to it about 10-12 times and still can't remember the chorus. I do like the beginning with the digitized effects and Patrick's voice is damn good. The screaming is... screaming. It's not bad, but it's not what I was expecting. Especially after they did such a great job on the Nightmare cover.

I don't know what else to call this except vanilla. Not French vanilla gelato or like, Cold Stone sweet cream vanilla...just Baskin Robbins or generic brand at Dominicks vanilla. No reference to ice cream headaches intended.
