I don't know how much this helps with weight loss, but you'll overall feel way better if you eat lots of whole grain and get at least 15 grams of fiber every day. I personally get like, 25 every day, but to my surprise I know people who get like, 2 or 3.

It's a lot easier for most people to allow yourself one day a week to have something that you normally wouldn't allow yourself just as an incentive; make sure it's only a serving or two though, don't go overboard on it or it defeats the purpose.

Like they ^^ said , fish, chicken and beans are a great way to make sure you're still getting protein, because that's super important.

Honestly, in order to lose weight you need to know how you gained it in the first place. Did you gain it gradually over a few years? If so, don't expect to drop seven pounds in a week. However, if you had a bad week and noticed the scale was all of a sudden 8lbs heavier, you can probably lose that in a week or two if you go back to your regular eating habits and exercise a bit more.

Now, back to if you gained the weight gradually. It can be tricky because some people lose weight just like that and can keep it off, while others have a very difficult time keeping it off. If you have troble keeping weight off, the following may help (it's like 5 am and I'm a little brain dead so if you catch something i say as completely bullshit it probably is. I'm going to try and explain things to the best of my ability though!):

Let's say you weigh 200 lbs. (I'm not basing this on anything other than it is a round number that is easy to work with). Your body is at a set point right now. A set point is created when you weigh a certain amount or a certain amount of time. So let's say after creating this thread you ate 400 calories a day and exercised 1000 off a day for a week and ended up creating a deficit of 6 lbs. (I have a lab report due in 15 hours so this is horrible math but I wanted to respond before you got really confused with everyone telling you something different) in that week. This is great... except your body is used to being at 200 lbs. It's going to make you feel REALLY hungry because it doesn't WANT you to lose the weight.

The same thing happens when you lose 1-2 lbs a week, though it is much less noticeable. I'd suggest watching what you eat EXTREMELY carefully like, the third week into your diet. I'm not saying cut your calories so you're starving, just make sure you have a mental note that even if your body makes you feel hungry, if you know you've had enough calories don't listen. Push a little harder in your exercises this week as well.

As far as the science behind diet and exercise goes, your body breaks down fuels (carbs, protein, fats) in the following order: The first day your body senses a calorie deficit, it will use up all of the glucose and glycogen it has stored in your cells, liver and muscles. It will then move onto the fuel (usually fat) stored in your body, and it may start to deplete some of your lean body mass as well. So basically, in order to burn fat you need to get rid of the stored carbohydrates in your body first. This doesn't mean atkins, because the diet will strain and damage your kidneys and you'll probably end up peeing blood when you're 60. You'll also need the B-vitamins in order for your metabolism to function correctly.

(an important note on burning body fat: you may want to start weight training. Make sure you get a good night's sleep after you weight train, however, because, as long as you haven't overeaten, your body will break down the fat stored in your body while you sleep to create energy so that it can repair your muscles (because weight training essentially works by creating small tears in your muscles and then repairing them).).

There's probably a lot more I could add but I'm tired and someone is probably going to come in and say everything I just typed is complete BS. but if you do have more questions about something I mentioned please feel free to PM and I'll try to explain it a bit better. Good luck!!! Keep in mind that no matter what happens the first few weeks you CAN do this. Keep a positive attitude and good things will happen!! Go you!

Aaaaaaand I also just realized you were a dude, so I'm sure you know half this stuff anyway. But good news (you prob, know this as well) is it's much easier for guys to lose weight because they store adipose (fat) tissues in their middle and for some reason it's much easier to lose weight from that area.

I know this was rhetorical, but I'll answer anyway, haha. It's not so bad :) I never have to worry about cross contamination, antibiotics, growth hormones, salmonella, mad cow disease, cholesterol, and tons of saturated fat in my food.

On the other hand I can almost never find anything to eat in a restuarant and my food is about 10X more expensive than yours. Oh! and people really like to make fun of me and act like asses by purposefully talking with their mouth full after eating a burger or something (but then again I made the choice so I'll deal with the ramifications that come with it)

well week one of diet is over...

recap

SODAs = havent had 1 in 2 weeks
Fried Foods = had fries today forgetting about it, but other than that havent really had any in a week
Fast Foods= dont have money for it anyways

dieting is super hard when everyone else in your family and house eats like a fucking fat kid(like myself) and all the bad food is available...but my will power is alright...i am eating mostly grilled/sauteed/broiled/steamed fishes chickens and vegetables...trying to mainly snack on crackers, cheese, fruits, celery, carrots. and whenever friends are up to it and im off work im trying to go skate more. breaking old eating habbits is hard enough...but at the same time trying to make better ones

I do well not eating white flour/white sugar. You can still eat carbs but not for every meal, and limit them to brown rice, wheat pasta, wheat bread, and so forth. Stay away from fatty foods as well. And of course, it's all about portion control.

Don't eat after 6 p.m.
Get a full nights sleep, every night [ you actually lose weight.. in your sleep. What could be easier? ]
Stop eating meat [ except maybe fish. ]. Chicken doesn't do much for you.
Try running. It's an easy way to fit in exercise, 'specially if you have a dog.
Or moshing nightly ^^;

If you are doing all the right things then just give things some time. Weight loss takes time, im the same as you doing the whole healthy eating thing all you can do is try.

For me the best thing to do is like someone bc it makes me basically eat only to stay alive... your stomach shrinks within about a week and then it's harder to eat a lot of crap.

yo, best diet plan right here.
just take responsibility for what you eat, if you make time later in the day to go on a jog, and work out. then pig out. but if your not sure, watch very carefully about what you eat.

also, if your trying to lose fat fast. the best way to do it is right when you wake up run.
i know people say, breakfast gets your metabolism going, and that's totally true. but run first thing in the morning, because after you wake up, your on a 6-10 hour fast, and your body has nothing to eat up for energy except fat.

i do a mixture of the two. i lost about 60 pounds in a year. i lost the first 40 pounds in like 3 months.

it may or may not work depending on your body and the way it handles food and work out.
but that's my best advice.

Its safe.. you can get it perscribed from a doctor... but you can buy it online too... now thats not really safe.

doing the same stuff all the time gets your muscles used to whatever your doing so you get slower, lesser results so make sure you've got a varied routine, and that way you won't get bored and end up quitting as easily.

eat small 6 meals instead of 3 meals..... that are balanced with a lean protein and complex carb
start weight training 3x a week
cardio 3x a week

eat as clean as possible for 6 days a week then take 1 day out of the week where you go off your diet but dont binge

cut out sodas, keep alcohol to a minimum, definitely avoid sugary foods/drinks, stay away from white bread, pastas, your crackers, etc..

Try going to the gym, I know that sounds like an obvious thing to say, but while you're there start off your work out with a 30 minute weight session. Then go on to more aerobic activies like the treadmill, rowing machine etc. You should find your work out more effective that way.

Also, do you eat when you're hungry or when your family / friends are eating? Only eat if you are genuinely hungry, if you think you are have a sip of water because often when you think you're hungry you're actually only dehydrated. Keep a bottle of water at hand as well, as not only does that help weightloss but it keeps your skin looking healthy too.

Always take the stairs, if you get a bus get off one step early. If there are low fat options to food you like and they don't taste like crap, try going for them. You could also try doing some sit ups and push ups when you get up in the morning. Start off at ten each, then the following week twenty and so on.

Dieting is never easy, but as long as you eat right, exercise and try not to snack too much then you should be okay :) Remember though, everything in moderation. If you really love pizza for instance, there's no reason why you can't have a little bit a week, just watch your portions.
