The Ataris (http://www.myspace.com/theataris) have posted "Not Capable of Love," the first single from their forthcoming album, Welcome the Night, on Myspace (http://www.myspace.com/theataris). Welcome the Night is set to hit stores on February 20th via Sanctuary.
This is much better than the other cd they were going to release

sounds like 'keep your hands off my girl...'
you'd think with all the members and crazy instruments they have now they could create something a little bit more impressive

Who says this isn't just one of the songs we didn't hear before. I bet all the other tracks are still the ones from that unmastered Welcome the Night.

wow. didnt see that one coming.
Quite a bit edgier than the unmastered demos. Not bad, but it's a single. The rest of the CD will be better.

Kris Roe should have just disbanded the ataris and released this under a new name. I can understand that's he's matured since Blue Skies and wanted a different direction. He's even said he's sick of playing 'San Dimas'

I don't mind it one bit - just give it a few listens.
Does anyone else get a The Killers-esque vibe with a little more "edge" from this single?

Still sounds good to me. I like it. Sounds Like Kris. I don't know what you guys are listening to. Honestly, you guys don't give music a chance. If you listened to it a few times, it would sink in, and chances are, you will be caught humming the chorus...

this is the most un-catchy song I've ever heard, it sounds like static mixed with the cure mixed with 7 garage bands playing at the same time. I wouldn't even buy this CD to shit on it...It sucks that bad.

Haha. I thought the same thing. If this was recorded under a different band name, it really wouldn't be all that bad. It's not The Ataris but it's still a great song.

I love it when bands do something different becuase everyone on websites like this one immediately whine and bitch how it doesn't sound like their old stuff. UNLESS of course its popular to embrace it and like it becuase its different (ex: deja entendu). Hoenstly I'm glad they're at least trying something new instead of playing the same thing over and over again although I guess most of you would never get sick of it

whatever, this song is great. they progressed and matured as muscians are are doing something every band should do...try something new.
i think this a big step up and i cannot wait to hear the rest.

i like it, the dudes gotta grow as a musician and i dont think it sounds nu metal to me, the guitar tone does not make something nu metal in my opinion but i can see how its easy to associate. i hear a little bit of the cure in some of the instrumentation and even a little in the vocal melody. blue skys makes me feel 15 again but its time for him to grow up and everyone to either grow with him (them) or be the "typical" music consumer and abandon a great artist because he wants to try something new. I tend to be loyal from start to finish, and i will never be a fair weather fan. xo

yea, this was a lot better than I was expecting, i didnt like the last cd too much, but this seems to be going in a better direction, but i think i need more than one song to say whether or not i like the new stuff

it's alright. worse than i was expecting, but not completely horrible. the guitars sound fucking annoying. regardless, i'm still curious about hearing the record.

Personally, I'm sick of getting The Killers-esque vibe from every band now. People are ruining their music and their legacies with this stuff.

Funny how a lot of people were complaining about the Ataris' last "high school yearbook quote" album and now everyone hates their new sound.
There new sound has a ways to go development wise, but I like it. Hooray for change.

I'll stick to So Long, Astoria. I love when bands change.. but now when they become a new band.. Change the name and keep your credibility. If you're going to do a 180 in one album, you need to change the name on the album

No, I understand. I've never been much of a fan of The Killers to begin with. I think that's the one flaw this song has, but I don't think it's reason enough to turn my back on them as a fan. Whether I like their "new" sound as a band or not is up in the air, but I know I'll always be a fan of So Long, Astoria. For now, I'll just wait until February to hear what they put together.

I like this. I think this sounds pretty good. I love the tone on the guitar very garage rock (strokes, mooney suzuki, etc...) They remind me of a band around here called The Assembly.
But, to agree with nearly everyone else in the post, they should just change the name of the band and be done with it. The Ataris will forever be associated with summer-time sounding pop-punk and everything that doesn't sound like it did before will undoubtedly (sp?) draw unfavorable comparisons.

Bands change. It happens. Look at Brand New for example; they released Your Favorite Weapon, which is an entirely different style compared to TDAGARIM, so should they have to change their band name, just because the new release sounds different from their older material? No. Because it's called "maturing"...
Also. On a sidenote. I remember seeing somewhere that the tracklisting was the exact same off the unmastered version, except with the addition of two new songs, "Not Capable of Love" being one of them...

Wow. It sounds completely different than anything that I was expecting. I used to be a pretty big Ataris fan. Sure, their sound has changed, but that's not always a bad thing. I personally hate listening to bands that always sound the same. It's just so monotonous. Change isn't always a bad thing. I can't wait for this to come out.

i love the unmastered demos. this song doesn't seem to fit in with them . . . still not a bad song, though, as from the unmastered demos i don't think i could've picked a single.
I actually think this song is really good. It takes a few listens, but it does sink in. The chorus is gold. I just wish they would have released it under a different band name.

Except when your name is Brand New and everyone loves it (referring to Deja). Bands can completely change as long as people like the direction they go.
