She used to be so beautiful
Brought life to all my nerves
Her hair smelled of poetry
There was youth in all her curves
But she drowned in her mascara
Because the commercials were killing her
She starved herself hungry
To be the girl TV preferred
So I’m begging that busted FM radio
Oh baby please don’t you give me that same old rock’n’roll
She used to be a woman
With dreadlocks and dark skin
Now she’s swimming in foundation
With goldilocks and bobby pins
She used to use her common sense
To develop the depths of her mind
But she turned her back on her own kind
Won’t ever hit rewind
My sister, my sister, let your hair flow free
Forget the styles the man set as your standard of beauty
My sister, my sister, let your mind conquer me
Pick up an ink covered sword and become a revolutionary, baby
Can’t make a move without the movement
Forget about the kings the queens are all wild
Can’t make a move without the movement
The revolt for freedom will always be reviled
Brought life to all my nerves
Her hair smelled of poetry
There was youth in all her curves
But she drowned in her mascara
Because the commercials were killing her
She starved herself hungry
To be the girl TV preferred
